Satellite sent into space on ariane rocket Kourou French Guiana apr a euro Pean ariane rocket blasted off from the northeastern Comer of South America on tuesday carrying two . Telecommunications satellites into outer space. The rocket loaded with Gstar-4 and sat com-c1 satellites lifted off at 8 11 . From the ariane facility Here. It was the 40th launching of an ariane rocket since the european space program began 10 years ago and it was the final launch of 1990. The rocket deployed the Satcom-c119 minutes after Takeoff at an. Altitude of 188 Miles and the Gstar-4 four minutes later at 438 Miles High. Satcom-c1 and Gstar-4 were built by general electrics astr space division and launched respectively for get space net and be american communications inc. They Are expected to remain in service for about 13 years providing communications links for the Continental United states Hawaii and Alaska. Ariane launches resumed in july after a five month suspension following the explosion of a rocket less than two minutes after Takeoff in february. Two japanese communications satellites aboard were destroyed. An investigation showed a clogged pipe was responsible for the Accident but a French Magazine reported the rocket was sabotaged. The claim was never proven. The last launch was last month when two satellites made by Hughes were put into orbit. The next launch is scheduled for january when an ariane will lift into space two satellites a Eu-Telsat-ii-f2 for european telecommunications and an Italsat-1 for Italy a space Agency. Arian space the commercial Branch of the european space Agency plans nine ariane launches in 1991. It has signed contracts Worth $3 billion to launch 34 More satellites. Tuesdays launch used for the first time the ariane-42p, one of the six versions of the rocket which uses two boosters of solid rocket fuel. The ariane-42p can place a payload of up to 2.6 tons to geostationary orbit 22,500 Miles above the surface of the Earth. The last several launches have used four strap on boosters of liquid fuel. Ltd this a White spot on Saturn photographed earlier this month has grown into a Girdle circling the records giant storm circling Saturn at 1,000 Mph Washington apr through the Eye of the Hubble Telescope scientists have recorded a Gigantic storm blowing across Saturn at More than 1,000 Mph sending ammonia Clouds billowing 150 Miles into space. Pictures taken by the telescopes planetary camera show that the storm which began in september As Art Earth size White spot now girdles the planet in a band 6,000 Miles across. A it might just be the largest atmospheric Structure right now in the solar system outside of the Sun a Andrew Ingersoll a planetary scientist from the California Institute of technology said tuesday. A the last time Saturn did anything of this magnitude was in 1933.? after Amateur astronomers discovered the White spot in september the Hubble was trained on Saturn the second largest planet in the solar system. The flaw in the telescopes mirrors does not detract from the instruments ability to see such relatively close objects. By nov. 9 and 11, when the first pictures were taken the storm Clouds ringed the planet with clearly visible swirls and loops. The Hubble photographed Saturn again last weekend bringing the number of pictures to 400. They will be made into a film said Charles Pellerin director of astrophysics at the National aeronautics and space administration Headquarters. A and pretty soon Well be Able to watch what some people have called the storm of the Century evolve in great astronomers done to know what is causing the great White Belt of Clouds and whether it is diffusing As it spreads or whether material from the planet is feeding it. A these planets like Jupiter and Saturn Are fluid objects All the Way to the Center a said Ingersoll. A there Are no volcanoes erupting because there Are no volcanoes. There is no solid crust. These planets Are sort of bubbling cauldrons of liquid and the atmosphere of Saturn is composed of Hydrogen and helium and the Clouds contain ammonia ice crystals and possibly a mixture of Fulfur and Carbon compounds. Ingersoll discounted the possibility that a Comet or other celestial object hit Saturn or that the disturbance was formed by smaller storms joining. A it has to be some sort of internal intermittent thing on Saturn like Saturn burped a Ingersoll said. A Why it should wait so Long to burp i done to Saturn is the windiest place in the solar system with the storm being whipped by a Westerly wind of 1,000 Mph. Ingersoll said heat is coming out of the deep Interior of Saturn and presumably pressures can build up. Tie planets weather is not driven just by sunlight As it is on Earth. A i done to really understand it a he said. A in some mysterious Way which i done to have a clue about Saturn burps in the summertime. This changing season could be part of waste from Jet rips into building wis. Apr a Frozen Franl. A an waste that apparently fell m an Airliner ripped through the roof Lious Highway department building by striking a worker authorities said. Mechanic working in Khuri ? he heard a loud crash Annm ueveivn8 and ran into the next Amiin i re found Blue ice splattered a tractor and a gaping Hole in the Mills 3ppand Block of ice narrowly Vairin and Radtke who was repaying the tractors engine. T sounded like an explosion a said Radtke 55, of Elkhorn. A it was really loud in a telling workers called police and gathered some of the ice into a Freezer to Back up their Story. A the Odds Are better of winning the lottery than having a piece of ice crash though the roof almost killing a Guy who a working on a tractor a Kinney said. A a it a crazy this thing. In be never seen a Case like this before a said Walworth county sheriffs detective Clay Hansen. Hansen said the sheriffs department will try to determine which airline dropped the ice chunk. A piece of the ice will remain preserved in the departments Freezer for investigators to take to the states crime lab. In spite of Hansen a comment chunks of ice coloured Blue by lavatory disinfectant have fallen to the ground before. The National transportation safety Board warned in August that the government Isnit doing enough to protect airline engines from ice chunks. Airline toilets Are designed to be emptied by Crews on the ground but occasionally one will leak and the liquid will freeze on the outside of the fuselage at High altitudes. In addition to simply falling to the ground the ice chunks can Fly into the planets engines. The problem has knocked the engines off two planes in recent years and caused others to fail. On feb. 12, an Eastern airlines Boeing 727 was forced to shut Down one engine on a flight from Atlanta to Sarasota Fla. On Jan. 4, a Northwest airlines 727 Jet flying Over Madison Fla., lost one engine due to ice from a toilet leak and a similar incident Tore the engine off an american airlines 727 Over Las Cruces n.m., on april 16,1985, the safety Board said. Both planes landed safely
