What some done to realize and respect is that the Barracks is our Home. We Are constantly being inspected and told How to keep our Home arranged with what Little furniture is provided by the army. The Barracks is Way overcrowded and each room is hardly Large enough to accommodate one Soldier let alone two. After two years of living in Germany one does acquire a fair amount of personal items. Between having a Roommate and inadequate storage space Barracks rooms done to come with maids rooms or closet anyone inspecting our Home would consider it cluttered. Remember most single soldiers done to have a Choice but to live in the Barracks. While i appreciate the roof Over my head and the warm bed to sleep in i am tired of constantly being watched and inspected in my Home. After All How Many Homes of soldiers living in government or off Post housing do you see the first sergeant commander or battalion commander inspecting i done to know How Barracks life is for soldiers elsewhere but i think some respect for our Home is in order. He Felt so strongly about his opposition to Cia estimates on soviet intentions that he went Public with his opposition a a Radical action for such a High level Cia director. Do these errors a however human a draw criticism of his abilities to run the Cia no instead he is praised for his Candor. As sen. Dennis Deconcini d-ariz., said a what happened happened. And you admitted you made mistakes and i Admire that. I do not Admire Gates mistakes or his Candor and neither should any of you. If a battalion brigade executive officer heard of or knew of illegal activities within his battalion brigade and did not act on it would he be a a admired for admitting to his mistake much less promoted head be working for big-0 tires within a week. I Challenge voters to get off your Lazy apathetic Butts and Send telegrams to your senators. To the recent writer i would like to say i agreed with his Points until he started to blame those social issues on a White does not have to be Black to experience inequality and or oppression. It affects All people everywhere because of those who consider themselves above others and lesser than themselves. It is not right. But judge each person for their own merits and actions not As a group to put the blame on and this would Steih less of a hindrance to you. I wanted to address the other Issue which i feel puts Forth the opposite message for which it May be intended. A to shirt titled a a it a a Black thing you understand that is worn quite frequently May be worn to bring attention to a social Issue which concerns us All. However i feel it causes a psychological Barrier to the viewer no May already be open minded to your cause if Given the Chance. It emits a sense of arrogance and hostility because you Are categorizing yourself and calling attention to the ignorance of others seeing you. We do understand. We feel the same outrage at Martin Luther King death and the beating of Rodney King As you do. We Are All capable of contributing to a peaceful society where our Energy is directed toward resolving problems. Are you helping to promote Harmony or just trying to blame others a sgt. Kathryn a. Ybarra Kaiserslautern Germany prayer a personal Issue regarding the recent letters addressing a unwanted prayer the Issue is More Basic than individual desires regarding prayer and religion. Contrary to the opinion expressed m a recent letter from a minister the Issue is separation of Church and state. While there Are those who say that one can get up and leave an event or remain seated during an invocation if they choose soldiers can not leave a unit formation when they Are asked ordered to Bow their Heads in prayer. In recent years it has become common for changes of command in some Usa eur locations to be a religious experience. Soldiers standing the formation Are asked to Bow their Heads while chaplains ask gods Blessing on the unit the incoming and outgoing commanders their families Etc. Some chaplains address their ecumenical prayers Only to god. Most however Are very specific in addressing their prayers a in Jesus name and to a your lord Jesus often a member of the unit gives the invocation. The result on one occasion was to give attendees the impression they were attending a revival meeting rather than a change of command ceremony. Unit achievements have been attributed not to Quality of training or the ability of the leaders hut to god in a variety of identities and to the effectiveness of prayer. The trend to include religion in official events permeates beyond the Parade ground. A Community chaplain dedicated our new Community Center created for All soldiers and their families a in the name of our lord Jesus religion is a personal Issue that belongs in the Home in the Chapel and in those activities that Are primarily religious in nature. It has been determined that religion does not belong in the school. Neither does it belong in official . Army ceremonies on or off the Parade grounds. We. Field Parma sons Germany a let it a constitutional bigotry i am writing in reference to those who have written recently ridiculing those offended by prayers at military functions. Col. D. Davidson executive director of armed forces chaplains Board in a recent answer to a question in your readers action line concerning a 165-1, actually admitted that the chaplaincy service is a a constitutional because it supports a the free exercise of As a constitutional Patriot i feel any time the words a a support and a a religion appears together in an attempt to justify Public funded religious practices then i View such explanations As either constitutional bigotry ignorance or hypocrisy. Col. Davidson also admitted that Christmas is a a legally observed in Public schools and other Public institutions because it is no longer a religious Holiday but is now a secular Holiday. Such an admission of the governments audacity to sidestep the Constitution by secular zing a religious Holiday should be alarming As Well As offensive to All citizens a especially christians not to mention non believers. After All at what Point or with what explanation will the chaplaincy permit or deny demonology chaplains to provide a a invocations at military functions or on the occasion of troop deployments should satanists expect a chaplain for their group also once again the question is not whether an atheist agnostic Muslim Christian jew Jehovah s witness mormon Buddhist wiccan new Ager or whatever has the right to sit stand or be excused during a prayer but whether such an invocation is anti constitutionally offensive to the particular minority in the audience. Remember the . Constitution and its foundation the Bill of rights is designed to protect the minority from the majority. A John . Briggs Nairn Borg Germany
