They licked their chops staring idly Back at the Carload of the curious that had stopped Only a few feet away. A leisurely sunday drive through the safari land Hollywood Park in Northern Germany leads through a Park where Many african animals roam freely. The indolent Lions basking in the Sun or lolling around on a Cloudy Day Are the main attraction at safari land. Although the Lions appear to be harmless Park employees sit parked in cars to warn people to keep their windows rolled up. Last year More than 600,000 people visited the Park. Which is about 60 Miles Northwest of Kassel. Located just North of Paderborn off autobahn 44, the Park is open 9 . To 6 . Until oct. 27. It will reopen in april. Joining the 40 Lions in the 135-acre Park Are about a dozen caged tigers several elephants giraffes and rhinoceroses As Well As zebras dozens of antelopes and monkeys. Among the african Birds at the Park Are parrots flamingos pelicans vultures and ostriches. One of the More popular stops however is an enclosed area away from the drive through safari land. The first Breeding pair of White tigers in Europe had twins a year ago and the Lively siblings put on quite a show wrestling and playing in their outdoor pen. The Mother is expecting again this time around Christmas. Not far from the tigers humans take their turn being caged in a train that circles inside a Baboon pen. As the trains chugs along slowly the Baboons leap onto the caged cars and reach inside for a handful of Popcorn. The amusement Park is a Short walk from the parking lot. At Dodge City a ghost town straight out of the wild West cowboys and indians blend in with performing pigs and ducks. Although the trick shooting and rope stunts Are fun to watch the regularly scheduled Bank robbery and ensuing shootout were a bit disappointing. While the Western show is Good for a few laughs the circus a at least for adults a is downright Boring. Aside from a gymnast performing an entertaining trampoline routine the show s Best moment comes from a Clown squirting water on the audience. Hardly innovative material. Many of the rides at Hollywood Park Are for preteens but the newest ride the Kongo River is a must do. It sends riders flying Down into a Pool of water. Other rides include the super Tornado roller coaster that manages to take you upside Down twice in a ride that lasts Only 18 seconds. A smaller roller coaster the ladybird train with hard turns and High speeds is actually More exciting. There Are also Pony rides a video games Center boat rides and a futuristic Cinema show. For the hungry there is a restaurant a fast food i miss and a picnic area behind the Hollywood theatre. Admission to safari land Hollywood Park is 22 Marks about $13.60 with children under 3 years old free. To drive to safari land Hollywood Park from Kassel take a-44 to Paderborn and then a-33 North to the exit for Highway 68 marked Stukenbrock Senne.
