A most of the heavy political hitters Bush now appears to need to run a Good Campaign next year Are in various stages of rebellion Over having to work under Sununu. That will be a forcing a it reminds me of the Carter years frankly a rep. Thomas j. Downey d-n.y., said in an interview. And a Rose Garden ceremony that was supposed to be celebratory left nearly everybody angry. C now Day Carl Rowan How does our terrorism differ from theirs when a groups in Lebanon Quot release their hostages my reaction is the same As it has been for every other release of these most innocent and brutalized of political prisoners. I asked myself How one four 10 human beings could in political passion keep another human being chained and terrorized for 1,700 Days or More. What kind of heart or conscience lurks within the bodies and minds of those who have kept Terry Anderson in a personal hell since March 16, 1985, Joseph Cicippio since sept. 12, 1986, and Alann Steen since Jan. 24, 1987? easing to the mute edges of my outrage i realized that there is something called i did no to see it terrorism at Loose on this planet and that no peace conference in Spain or anywhere else can be Worth a Damn if it cannot proscribe both up close and out of sight terrorism and mayhem. The hostage holders have been and Are just the pawns of cruel mind warped politicians who never Sec the arms and legs chained to radiators smell the stench of a captive who cannot get to a bathroom or sense the psychological damage being done to a captive who never sees the Light of Day or has a Chance to Converse with another human being. It is considered a a patriotic for us americans to vent our hatreds at these see no evil hostage takers in Lebanon Iran or wherever. We declare it traitorous to even entertain the thought that they have engaged in bestial behaviour because they have seen their a a Western enemies engage Over and Over again in out of sight mailings and killings. We americans Are brain programmed to believe that to drop bombs on civilians in Panama Libya or Iraq is a Mere Accident of War undeserving of scorn or certainly not opprobrium of the magnitude that we pile upon those who hold hostages or put bombs on buses. World peace is impossible if we refuse to entertain any charge of substantial Western guilt. When will we Stop thinking of Quot terrorism and inhuman behave or Only in terms of what our perceived enemies Are doing. There arc old forms of a terrorism Quot and new laser guided smart Homb terrorism. We must face the truth that we All of every race religion or place of National loyally love our children and do not want them to die in any conflict based on a on sided claim As to what is unjustified and what is justifiable mass killing. Let us Pray that at every peace Conte Telce a Wise Charity of human spirit prevails Over sophistry about who is a terrorist and who bombs and kills with moral impunity.
