Unless women Are willing to discuss it openly it will continue to destroy families and endanger another generation. Please Ann publish the following facts. People need to know that a four thousand women die from Domestic violence annually. A ninety five percent of Domestic violence victims Are women. A thirty percent have been physically abused while pregnant. A Over two thirds of abused children come from households where the Mother is abused. A children who grow up in violent Homes come to believe that violence is Normal and acceptable and that it is the Best Way to control others. A the majority of violent adult prisoners were raised in violent Homes. A the Fri reports that 30 percent of the women murdered in this country were killed by their husbands or boyfriends. A during the six month period following an incident of Domestic violence approximately 32 percent of women Are victimized again. A battering often occurs during pregnancy. In just one Hospital emergency unit in Illinois 21 percent of pregnant women had been battered. These women had twice As Many miscarriages As non battered women. A children from violent Homes have higher risks of alcohol and drug abuse and juvenile delinquency. A children in Homes where Domestic violence occurs Are physically abused or seriously neglected at a rate dear Abby dear Abby six years ago my husband and i went to the Netherlands to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We had planned and saved for the trip for Many years. Another married couple our Best friends were going with us. My Mother had had several operations for cancer but her doctor said she could live another six months to a year. You can probably guess what happened. We went off on this trip and the second week of our Holiday i got a Call from my brother telling me that mom was in the Hospital but he did t think i should Cut my trip Short and come Home. I did not go Home but my Mother took a sudden turn for the worse and died the next Day. We had taken a weekend Side trip and missed the Telephone message giving us the news so i missed my Mother s funeral. A Day has not gone by that 1 Haven to wept bitter tears and asked god to forgive me. My Mother had sacrificed so much for me and i Wasny to even there to pay my last respects. Just writing this has helped but i still feel guilty. Monday december 30, 1991 1,500 percent higher than the National average in the general population. A data from shelters in Illinois show that 51 percent of battered women reported the abuse occurred at least once a week. Another 25 percent reported a once per month frequency. More than 60 percent were hit with a fist or an object. In Texas More than two thirds had their lives threatened a 60 percent were kicked and 40 percent were abused with a knife or a gun.
