Forget that we re All condemned by germans because of the americans who Speed excessively on the roads who Are loud and obnoxious in Public and who Start fights with germans. The americans 1 want to talk about Are the ones who Are ignorant about recycling. 1 live on the longest residential Street in Firth housing. We have kindly been supplied with two big paper recycling bins for our convenience. Germans have to drive to drop off their recyclables unfortunately a lot of americans Here feel that there is no difference Between the regular Green trash bins and the ones that Are White and have a a paper written in big red letters on the Side. The bin even says in smaller red letters what paper is cardboard magazines newspapers writing paper Etc. No where on that bin does it say a plastic trash bags aluminium cans disposed food Coffee grinds and styrofoam. What seven worse there Are two Green trash bins within 50 feet of the paper bins. Are people so Lazy and rude that they can to even walk another 15 seconds to dispose of their trash properly the paper bins Haven to even been emptied in the last several weeks because there is no Way the germans will pick it up As paper trash. Recycling is a German Law. Please be considerate and throw your trash away properly. Maybe the germans will Start to respect us. A Cheryn l. Pedersen Firth Germany a All about shift work after Reading the Story a shift work May be hazardous to your health a Many questions about air Force standards and policies came to mind. I Hope i can enlighten some of your non shift working readers about some very real concerns. First my husband is a Security police officer and shift work is a necessary part of his work. Second if we accept that shift work causes higher cholesterol Levels As much As 70 percent within six weeks then Why Are there not opportunities for aerobic exercise and physical activity accentuated for those who have no Choice but to work these shifts my husband works a 10-hour Day. He and his men must prepare for duty themselves hold guard mount and Post out prior to the beginning of their eight hour workday. At the end of their shift they must return to the Armoy to turn in their equipment but Only after completely being relieved by the on coming flight. Fine. But when they return they can t go to the base gym the gym is closed. Or they Are too tired after being up from 10 . To 7 . To get in a Good workout. When i hear of personnel who have Normal workdays Lake an hour for lunch an hour for the gym and then leave prior to 4 30, it makes me sick. My husband cannot get a haircut go jogging take care of personal appointments or go to the gym during his 10-hour shift. And yet the spa Are sup used to be the most physically fit Mem ers of the air Force a they re the a ground combat fighting then i read that my husband will have a blood cholesterol level that is 70 percent higher than those that work straight Day shifts and probably will die sooner. Great. But he gets paid More for working these shifts right wrong. He works a conservative estimate of 40 hours a month More than does an individual with the same pay Grade in another career Field. No weekends no holidays no special gym hours no base activities during his work Day. That s Alt of his own time Between rest and his family. E1 Bioh Well that a just part of the Job right i guess the rest of the air Force can sleep peacefully As Long As he a out there when he has to be. Who pays in the end its Nice of the department of defense to cancel the collecting of overpayment to gis especially so close to Christmas. But if we look deeper that a $79.7 million overpaid to begin with. Where is this loss coming from a the Federal budget which is already far in the Hole or the military one How Many other soldiers will be a a released to make up for this a loss a come on the Pentagon made an error paying it out now they re doing it again by cancelling it. Id like to know the real Story a who and what is going to end up paying for it for some reason i feel it will be the Active duty personnel again. A Mark m. Cipriano Rhein main a Germany # Comfort troops got More i am writing this letter because of the hard feelings that prevail in my Community about benefits provided to those Servic members who went try temporary duty to operation provide Comfort described As a peacekeeping Force and those deployed to desert storm a War. When All but one unit from our Community deployed to Southwest Asia our Community did not have the support that Many of the Mac oms major commands and Milcos military communities had. Although the Community facilities and the unit left behind tried their Best we fell Short of even Basic communications with our spouses who were deployed. I know my husband brought Home less Money because of separate rations being withheld than he normally would even with the addition of separation and danger pay. Thousands of spouses in Usa eur went through the same situation. Done to get me wrong i thank the lord every Day that our Community lost so few people. But Here is the problem. The units who went try to operation provide Comfort have been Given so Many More benefits than those in the War that a real sense of unfairness prevails in our Community. These service members were Given air conditioned tents alcoholic beverages passes to travel and shop free Telephone Calls on a daily basis through the Auto on system email danger and family Szpara Tion pay which was increased just in time for them to get More than those deployed to the Wara non taxable income tax adjustment allowed to keep their Bas Basic allowance for subs letters to the editor tence and several thousand dollars try pay. Whose idea was it to give these entitlements for such a Mission and How could they be so thoughtless As not to anticipate the sense of injustice this would create in communities that had soldiers deployed to both operations our sponsors Are mad As hell that these service members sent try on a peacekeeping Mission get to Wear a War watch. This should have been a try Ike any other or a deployment but not kith. A Stacy Ellison Nurnberg German drugs done to stalk recent television and newspaper articles have taken a disturbing turn. I was disappointed to see that the stars and stripes has joined the ranks of new people who consider a a drugs to have a will of their own. I refer to your headline a drugs stalk homeless studies say dec. 21. The article covered the statistics of drug and alcohol use among homeless people. The article did not Bear out the headlines suggestion. I consider this As sensationalism and feel that it has a place in today a news Market a next to the Sun and the National enquirer. I Hope the Day will come when the members of the press make a real attempt to report news without making a melodrama of it. The Media Are giving our youth two widely divergent views of drug abuse first that if you Are sufficiently poor and destitute a a drugs arc out to get you second that if you Are Rich and famous enough you Are not expected to a say no a because drug use is a disease of the affluent and a a relapse is sad but expected. An abuser does not Quot suffer a relapse of drug use. An abuser chooses to once again ingest inject or inhale an illegal substance. A Cynthia w.
