Eric Kolkhorst became a Baltimore policeman in 1982, five years after leaving the . Marine corps. When notified of those orders the police department told him to quit the Active reserves immediately. He quit but sued claiming the department had violated the veterans re employment rights act. A Federal judge last year ruled that Kolkhorst must be allowed to join the Active Reserve unit and ordered the police department to pay him $4,164 in damages
