I have been following stories on the a rubber Check syndrome Quot with disdain. Its very difficult to justify this Type of behaviour from people we elected and placed our Trust in to make critical decisions affecting our society i have a real problem swallowing these abuses after having seen some of my Young troops disciplined and in some cases discharged for writing worthless checks on a much smaller scale. In a not trying to condone their actions but proper examples should begin at the top. If these actions by our elected officials disturb you As much As they do me i say lets vote these a rubber representatives out of office when the time comes. Lets work toward a restoration of credibility. Make your vote count. A Michael j. Tompkins or. Alconbury England americans out in the cold the . Military in the past has come to the Aid of Many countries for humanitarian reasons a the people of Panama the kurdish people in Iraq and now the russian Airlift. These arc All admirable undertakings that the military looks Forward to doing. But according to All the news reports and to specials that have been broadcast there Are a lot of homeless people in America a one Quarter Are military veterans. When my unit recently deactivated the blankets and bed linens were boxed for Tum in. We were told they would be Given to the a refugees in a All of the blankets my battalion turned in should be going to the homeless in the United states. Giving English books from an elementary school to a third world nation sounds admirable until you Stop and realize that they probably done to speak English. What a the Point Are we playing politics lets put the books Back on the shelf in America to help our ailing education system and save our states tax Money. We must find better and smarter ways to dispose of our military excess and help americans first. A sgt. 1st class Franklin l. Eischeid Heilbronn German More on the ak-47 i would like to respond to a Bra Dye a mind Fine March 13. Regarding Bradys comments on the Killeen Texas killings the Man who committed the crime would have legally been Able to obtain the handguns whether or not the a Brady Bill was Law. He had no previous criminal record and therefore would have been Able to Purchase the handguns. As for Brady saying that the ?oak-47 is too powerful for Hunting Quot in most states an ak-47 is a Legal Hunting weapon when equipped with a five shot Magazine. No state allows Hunting with Center fire weapons with Large capacity magazines. However there Are Many shooting tournaments in which 20-shot magazines Are mandatory. The ak-47 7.62x39 Cartridge is adequate for Many forms of Hunting but to say that the ak-47 a is too powerful for Hunting is Hogwash. My .30-06 is More powerful at 300 Yards than the ak-47 is at the muzzle. Lastly Legal ak-47s used for Hunting Are semiautomatic not machine guns As the press or handgun control inc. Would have people believe. A Dewayne t. Currier Ramstein a German be responsible i am a believer in the Bible and think it should be More a part of everyday life. It is sad to see Young people who give no thought to How they intend to raise the child when the female gets pregnant. The main problem is that nobody wants to take responsibility for raising a child. Nothing in today a society is free. I do not see outlawing abortion As the answer to the question. Only when we View abortion As murder and take responsibility for our own actions will the Issue be solved. A Charles a. Scaler Augsburg German editor s note letters from readers expressing their viewpoints Are published daily in this space. All letters must be signed. We Reserve the right to edit letters for clarity length and taste. Preference is Given to Shorter letters so that More can be published in a timely manner. Letters should be addressed to letters to the editor the stars and stripes unit 29480, Apo a 09211. A a a letters requesting information or assistance Are answered in a feature called readers action line which appears on Page 16 every Day except thursday and sunday. Such letters should be addressed to readers action line the stars and stripes unit 29480, Apo a 09211.whole must be read i am addressing the letter a Bible says inflict a avoid of understanding Means a person lacks Wisdom not that they re mentally retarded. A person can to take one verse out of the Bible and make it stand alone. The whole must be read. When Jesus said to hate sister brother etc., he did no to mean it literally. He meant that anyone who loves someone else More than god cannot be his disciple. God comes first in All that we do. The Bible clearly states that the pain people suffered in the old testament was caused by disobedience to god. To disobey meant pain. Sin brought separation from god. Jesus came to show us a better Way a salvation. A Debra j. Thomas Mainz German How not to serve gis the recent Boondoggle regarding the demise of the quartermaster laundry in Wurzburg is a prime example of How not to serve the Soldier. 1 find it impossible that the . Army in Europe did no to know about the problem prior to March 1. Soldiers failing to fully utilize the personal laundry system was the same excuse used last year to discontinue the payroll deduction program. Notices were published months prior to the cessation of that program. If there were a possibility of the contracts being discontinued Why Wasny to the problem published prior to March 1? soldiers in my unit have class a uniforms bus Battle dress uniform sleeping bags and personal clothing now somewhere in the system. The representatives at the former quartermaster laundry Don t know when these item letters to the editor will be returned. Try explaining that to a Soldier deploying to the Field for 30 Days without a sleeping bag a sergeant going before a promotion Board with no class a uniform or a Soldier being transferred with personal clothes still in the laundry. It be that difficult to put out a message prior to the action taken by Usa eur. Usa eur is very efficient in notifying us of everything else but this matter directly affects the welfare of soldiers. Now that the quartermaster laundry has gone away i suppose Usa eur is going to buy washers dryers and dry cleaning equipment for my residence Hall to allow the soldiers to clean their Linen and sleeping bags. That at least would be a taking care of a capt. David w. Darnall Vilsick Germany Lack activities backed i would like to comment on the letter a reverse As a Black female i try to treat everyone the same As i would like to be treated fairly and respectfully. But to hear someone ask Why do we have Black history month miss Black America and Black magazines really does upset me. The reason for these things is to recognize our Black leaders future leaders and goal setters. Why we dedicate one month out of the year to acknowledge our Black leaders who helped shape America when we learn about the White american leaders 365 Days a year. A Burnetta Brinson Augsburg German attitude important i had to smile when i read the letter a the feels left out March 19. The writer feels that White american males Are omitted from German social circles because German women prefer Black males. Looking around i see German women with White males also German and american. Certain qualities in attitude and appearance Are important in social circles especially in Europe which is generally More sophisticated than the United states i suggest that the writer get out and see Europe in his free time and take time to appreciate and learn about the culture Ana lifestyle Here.
