A Don Barksdale the first Black player selected to the Aba Allstar team died of cancer at his Home relatives said tuesday. Barksdale died monday said his sister Pamelia Gore. He was 69 and would be been 70 on March 31. The Urcla graduate joined the Baltimore bullets in 1951, becoming the third Black player to sign an Aba contract. He was preceded by Chuck Cooper who joined Boston in 1950, the same year Earl Lloyd signed with Washington. Barksdale entered the Aba As a 28-year-old Rookie and made $20,850, one of the league s top salaries that year. He played two years at Baltimore and two at Boston during a career in which he averaged 11 Points in 262 games. He had 2,088 rebounds.
