Ill have some great stories to Tell my grandchildren said Chris a student at Hanau High school. It just makes me feel better to do this. Every Day i can see How Lucky i am compared to other people in the world. So i be started to appreciate what i Chris was a Pupil at Hanau Middle school last school year when he and his fellow pupils be came friends with Young refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The refugees Dis placed from their Mccloskey Homeland by fight ing among serbs croats and muslims live at a former . Army Post Hessen Homburg Cavern just five minutes from the americans school. Chris and other pupils at the Middle school along with teacher Carolyn Mccloskey were the first americans to be Friend the refugees from the former Yugoslavia. In november 1992, Mccloskey and four pupils ventured past Security guards at the Gates of the former Cavern to deliver clothes to the refugees. They met two Young English speaking boys and invited them to the american school. Our education about the real world Man s cruelty to Man began then my Closkey said. Each week she loads up her Van with pupils and bags of clothes and Heads for the Camp where about 150 children live. The Effort is part of .2, which stands for concern and respect for everyone everything. The Community service group is made up of Hanau Middle school pupils who strive to make the Community school and world better places. The bosnian kids say it helps them forget for a while Mccloskey said of their time together. For our kids the have an absolutely unique Opportunity to not Only get to know the kids and their families but to get a glimpse at the reality of this horrible War which no other american kids can some members of the original Ameri can group have moved and some of the refugees have begun to assimilate into the German culture but friendships continue to flourish. Community members donated Money toys clothes time and Energy to .1 under the auspices of the Ger Man red Cross truckloads of goods have continued to flow from the Hanau Amer ican Community to the bosnian Camp Mccloskey said. She has spread the word to her Home town in Oregon and families there have opened their Homes to bosnian children who might want to live in the United states for a year. She is now working to Send 16-year-old Dragana Meki Marinkovic and 14 year old Emina Biog Radjija to Oregon. Emina giggled when she recalled her first attempt at Bowling. The Ball went Over her head and dropped behind her rather than rolling Down the Lane.
