A Shannon Faulkner stormed the Citadel but the military College was Able to drive her Back for now with an assist from the nation s highest court. Faulkner made history wednesday when she became the first woman in the 151-year history of the All male military College to Register for classes. Her Victory was Short lived however As . Supreme court chief jus Tice William Rehnquist granted the school s request to keep her from starting classes thursday. The College filed a motion at the supreme court on wednesday seeking to put on hold a lower court s Rul ing that Faulkner be allowed to attend classes while awaiting a decision on her discrimination lawsuit against the school. In a one sentence opinion Rehnquist agreed to Stop Faulkner from attending classes at least until monday. At that time the chief Justice said he wanted to hear a response to the Citadel s motion from the Justice department and Faulkner s attorneys. Rehnquist is As signed to the 4th circuit where the discrimination Case is being heard to Rule on emergency matters. The school has argued that allowing a woman to at tend class with the cadets would cause irreparable harm by eliminating All male education at the Citadel. Shannon s crying.
