Keep out porn i be read with interest All the letters about putting pornography in the base Exchange. Our last duty station was Osan a South Korea where these publications Are sold in the base Exchange. On two occasions my children and 1 were greeted with these magazines uncovered. After restocking the worker forgot to cover them. Countless times we walked past As a lonely airmen paged through a particular Magazine in full View of any one v. The by workers can t be expected to Monitor the Magazine rack every minute Lam sick and tired of hearing about Peoples a a rights to buy pornography. There is such a thing As restraint for the common Good. Lets keep the by a family store instead of giving in to the selfish vices of a few. As for your rights a subscribe to these magazines its cheaper and we will be sure our children Are shielded in Public. A r. Broderick. Spang Dahlum a Germany. Ban browsing in response to a recent letter i must say that it is ridiculous to suggest that people should not bring their children into bookstores. We have a responsibility to teach our children to read in order to raise an intelligent generation. Visiting the Bookstore promotes literacy and enjoyment of Hooks which in turn promote intelligence and Good grades in school. I work at the bad Kreuz Nach Bookstore and my 19-Mo nth old son enjoys our children a Section every Day. I am not one who thinks that the adult Reading materials should be censored or removed. I do however feel that browsing in this Section which could inadvertently expose underage or sensitive people to the photos should not be permitted. I know from personal experience that this can happen i would also like to Point out that it is both illegal and dangerous to leave your children in the car As the writer suggests. A Tamara Pennell bad Kreuz Nach Germany explaining health care the writer of Quot vip health care june 10 apparently has some misconceptions about now the military medical system operates in Europe. Lan Stuhl army regional medical Center offers a variety of specially and some sub specially care not found in the 7th medical Comdr a hospitals but does no to offer All specially services. One of those is cardiac surgery. With very few exceptions All patients regardless of rank or status requiring this Type of surgery Are referred to Walter Reed medical Center in Washington . Or the National naval medical Center in Bethesda my. The exceptions Are those who have an emergent condition whose health would be jeopardized by delay in treatment and those who Are not entitled to use military treatment facilities. Otherwise family members retirees and Active duty personnel both officer and enlisted arc referred to Walter Reed or Bethesda. Of the Many cardiac patients seen at Lan Stuhl in the last year Only three a an Active duty Captain a Dod civilian and an infant a were referred to a Host nation facility. In that same time 14 other cardiac patients needing care unavailable at Lan Stuhl were referred to Walter Reed or treatment for a condition is available through the military medical system soldiers must receive it through that system unless a medical emergency precludes it. A Barbara Slifer chief 7th medical Comdr a Public affairs office Heidelberg Germany. Bless the military As i watched the 50th anniversary of a Day i was impressed by president Clinton a speech. I Hope he was sincere since he has appeared so anti military. Maybe this memorial Day will change his opinion. We need our military to keep peace in this troubled world. I too lost a father in that terrible War. As a Young child of five living in France i looked at All the planes flying Over and dropping tin foil strips. I did no to know at the time what they were for. Later i Learned they were used to fool the enemy a radar. So i Praise All the Brave men who died to save France from becoming a slave to Hitler. I am proud to be an american now for the fast 25 years. God bless America and All our military men who keep fighting to keep our world free. A Liliane Rolfe. Miessau Germany change or end before we Grant recognition then we should apply the same policy toward Hanoi. The leadership is based on the same tired old ideology. Events in Cuba since 1959 did not tear apart America and so disrupt our government bodies. I think that is the least we could do to put the cold War behind us it. A. Schrader Ramstein a Germany a Day comes up Short does it seem Peculiar Only to me that following former president Richard m. Nixon a demise we Are awarded a Day off from duty for mourning plus a 30-Day moratorium yet on the Day commemorating the 50th anniversary of a Day a the greatest and costliest invasion in the history of our armed forces a its business As usual on All military installations a maj. Anthony g. Smith Raf Lakenheath England Flag Courtesy Lackin upset at Clinton i was repulsed to see president Clinton f participating in All the a Day activities t really burned me to see him pay Horn age to the world War ii veterans and thank them for Quot giving the ultimate How docs president Clinton justify his actions when during the time his country needed him he lied to England to avoid the draft 11 i am very indebted to All those who fought in world War ii. I would like to say thank you to All the veterans who have served before me a Petty officer 2nd class Mark r. Bond London concern on Vietnam i am concerned that decisions being made to renew Trade with Vietnam Are one More step to full recognition for that country. The leadership in Hanoi is the same group of thugs who arc responsible for the deaths of Many americans As Well As their own men women and children. Or o i have seen some sad things in the military but i can never recall seeing the Flag being flown at full staff on memorial Day. We need to learn the proper respect and Courtesy to our Flag for which so Many men and women have Given their lives. If we can Honor a deceased president for an entire month no less who was the Only president to Ever be forced from office then i cannot understand Why so Many sacrificed lives have gone unnoticed. I called the Security police and asked what had happened and was Given the answer that nobody had informed the spa on Flag detail to lower the Flag to half staff for that Day. When we have to Tell our Freedom fighters something they should already know i feel terribly let Down. It made me so angry to see that no one had the initiative to go out on their own without being Given an order to give the proper respects to the ones who deserve it i have lost friends and loved ones who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and it is important to me to remember them every Day of the week especially so on the one Day that is set aside for them. We need to ensure that this does not happen again next year or any other Day set aside for remembrance of our fellow . A senior airman Tanya a Ericson Ramstein a Germany c editors note 3 our government is rightfully trying to put the legacy of the Vietnam War behind us. It is believed that renewing Trade opening tourism and advancing business opportunities exist and should not be missed. If this is to be our policy Why not do the same thing in Cuba americans were not sent there to fight and die.
