Here is the itinerary we followed for the remainder of the trip a from Orange we made about a two hour Stop at Pont do Garden route to Nimes. Pont do card is a beautifully preserved roman Aqueduct located above a River in a quiet country setting. The approximately 2,000-year-old Aqueduct also makes a Nice stopping place for a picnic. A Nimes. We stayed at camping car Vaning Domaine de la Bastide on the outskirts of this Large City. This campsite the Only one near the City was the least attractive of the four and located within faint hearing distance of the Highway. But it offered clean facilities a Small supermarket and Best of All a bus Stop located just outside the main Gate. Traffic is heavy in Nimes so take advantage of the Short bus ride that will drop you off in the heart of this Lovely City next to the roman Arena. Nimes is a great place to wander through the narrow streets from one peaceful Square to another where you la find an abundance of Shady outdoor cafes. Also Check out the roman Temple and the luscious Green Park at the end of town where you la catch a great View from the Tower. Camping car Vaning Domaine de la Bastide is located at 30900 Nimes Telephone 66.38.09.21. The Cost was 108 francs about $19 for two people for two nights. A Fon Vieille. This Small quiet town has a Beautiful Campground in an idea location for Short Day trips to the majesty of Les Baux the bullfights of Arles and the peacefulness of St. Remy. Fon Vieille is worthy of a Stop in its own right and camping municipal is located within walking distance on the Edge of town. The campsite is extremely quiet Grassy Shady and sectioned off with High thick Hedges that offer lots of privacy. The facilities Are new and impressive. The Small ancient Village of Les Baux offers plenty of Small shops and restaurants lining its narrow alleys. You can climb to the top of the ruins of this once Rich City to enjoy some spectacular panoramic views. Just a Short winding drive from Les Baux on Road d-27, be sure to Check out the unusual audiovisual show featured inside a former Bauxite Quarry. _ _ co to St. Remy for spectacular relaxation and to visit the ruins of a roman mausoleum Arch and Village just outside town. On the Way there you la see a Grove of Olive Trees to the left. The Grove provides some of the scenery that made St. Remy one of Vincent Van Gogh s favorite places. Plan for half a Day to a full Day in St. Remy. If by now you be had a Little too much rest and relaxation then take a full Day trip to Arles to get your blood pumping at the bullfights held in a roman Arena. Get to the Arena a few hours before the fights begin to see the bulls being unloaded from the truck. This can be seen from a cafe behind the Arena. Arles is a Large City with lots of other things to see and do for those with no stomach for a Duel in the Sun. Fon Vieille facts is easy to find. Just follow the Campground sign As you enter the City. The Telephone number is 90.54.78.69. The Cost was 156 francs about $27 for three nights for two people. In St. Remy try the lunch menu special at the bar restaurant i Olivier for excellent food at a great Price. Lunch for two was 200 francs about $35. The address is 21 Boulevard Mirabeau Telephone 90.92.10.19. From Fon Vieille we indulged ourselves with an overnight stay at a hotel at Aix in Provence. The main Street at Aix is a smaller if not nicer version of Paris streets leading off it. After Aix it was on to a Sanary sur Mer. There Are two campgrounds Here that Are both within walking distance of the Beach and Harbor. We stayed at camping Les girdles which is close enough to the sea to hear the Waves at night. The Campground also has a Terrasse area in the Back offering great views. But Don t get a plot too close to the Road because the traffic noise can keep you awake at night. If you take the Road leading to the Bottom of the Hill you la find a Small Rocky Beach Only five minutes from any campsite. It s about a 30-minute walk to the Harbor which can be reached by walking to the main Highway Road and following signs to the Harbor. If the ground is beginning to be a pain in the Back the Rock de Armour hotel and restaurant is across the Street from the Campground. The hotel is directly on the coast and has old fashioned rooms and breakfast on the Terrace by the Pool. The restaurant is a bit pricey but has lots of Charm and a View that s hard to boat.
