Filthy language i think i be heard enough. Last night at the fitness Center on base i heard a spouse scream in front of her child for someone on her husband s soccer team to kick an opposing player in the last week a Young male family member at a youth soccer practice shouted vulgarities directly at me while i was coaching. During both situations i said something to the individuals then i started thinking. During my few Short weeks at this assignment i be heard this same Type of language from Many senior noncommissioned officers and offi cers. And this was t in the Case of Pri vate conversations or meetings behind closed doors. This was at base introductory briefings senior enlisted adviser meetings and other base functions. From what i be heard it s no wonder these family Mem Bers mentioned use the filth that they do. I believe people can express them selves without profanity much More effectively than with it. People whose Lan Guage is so repro Chable really just prove that they can t express themselves very to our readers let us know what you think we encourage our readers especially those who have never submitted a letter to write to us. Being a Leader in today s air Force is a privilege for myself that carries Many responsibilities. It s a serious thought that we represent the air Force and our country every single Day. I strive to con duct myself in a dignified manner in my official capacities and in interacting with youth especially with my Choice of words. It seems to me to be an important enough subject to be concerned with an not just a question of style. I suppose that some people think that being concerned about this Type of Lan Guage is old fashioned and maybe i should t expect anything better. But i these Days of Quality air Force is there any room for Quality speech it s some thing to think about master sgt. Christopher l. Thomas Raf Croughton England be a Little considerate once there was a Man who was stand ing in line at the commissary. The tally of his groceries would have taken 30 seconds if the cashier Dawdle. However in front of him a shopper had $50 in Cou Pons. So the Man behind the shopper had to wait is minutes before his groceries could be processed. The same Man went to the four sea sons to buy a Roll of film. But one cashier was writing out the laborious paperwork apparently necessary to buy a new cashier was Busy explaining the details of a to. Thus the Man waited 10 minutes to buy a Roll of film. Then the Man went to the movies on base. He realized As the movie progressed that children were running Upland Down the aisles. A baby began to bawl. So the Man knew that he was get Ting More for his Money. Not Only did Heget to watch the movie but he also got to witness the ongoing drama in the theater. In All fairness to the above mentioned agencies this kind of thing happens a lot and anywhere on Caserma Eberle. The moral of the True Story is this consideration is contagious and it can be assumed the opposite is the Case. It May not be fair to expect Cashiers and manag ers to be the police of the inconsiderate. How hard would it be to see someone with 30 seconds Worth of groceries and a Roll of film and put that person ahead of someone with a 15-minute need if the shopper with $50 in coupons and the Par ent with the unsupervised children can t show regard for others who s Hurt by it the shopper with 30 seconds Worth of groceries. The customer who Only wants to buy a Roll of film. The moviegoer who has to put up with other parents unsupervised children that s who. I was Reading a letter about the Downing of the Black Hawk helicopters which asks is there any Dif Ference Between what it. did and a Drunken Driver unintentionally hurting his victim of course there is a big difference. I feel that the Azacs were More at fault and it. Col. May was Only doing his duty. And anyway what would the army have done if those helicopters were iraqi and it. Col. Not that they Are unrelated. Jennife Harbury s so far unavailing quest for of rain Bamaca Velasquez illustrates for an International Public a Lack of official accountability All too familiar to the families of the Large numbers of guatemalans killed or disappeared at official hands. But the larger event of Guatemala s incipient Effort to put aside its violent past also is part of the picture. The armed forces Are corrupt and make the old Al Salvador s armed forces the killers of the jesuits look Well behaved. Import Ned by Harbury a lawyer from Washington the army has dodged and lied and failed to provide verifiable facts about the missing Man. Some parts of the human rights Community in Guate Damhave supported Harbury s Campaign which entailed a monthlong hunger strike outside the National Palace. Others have noted that Bamaca is not a typically innocent guatemalan civilian victim of army terrorism but a member fan organization identified with violence. No matter. It is Worth it to have the military on the defensive at this moment when a renewal of Guatemala staking fragile Root. The government of Ramiro de Leon Carpio a former human right ombudsman has been negotiating with the guerrillas on human rights the role of the armed forces the place of the majority indigenous Peoples refugees and Salvador like truth commission other issues Are to come.
