and stripes Hohenfels Germany More than 6000 headed for Iraq or Afghanistan Are participating in one of the largest Mission rehearsal exercise at the joint multinational readiness Center the personnel includes More than 4000 troops from the Ira bound 12th combat aviation brigade and the Afghani Sta bound 173rd airborne brigade it also includes 1st infantry division Mil itary transition teams headed to Afghani Stan troops from Poland Bulgaria and Afghanistan plus police and staff from a com Bat surgical Hospital according to joint multinational training command spokes Man maj Eric Bloom the exercise began last week and ends tuesday on thursday a 3rd battalion 158th Avia Tion regiment task Force of Black Hawk Apache and Chinook helicopters swarmed like angry bees Over the Box training area at Hohenfels hundreds of soldiers from 1st battalion 503rd infantry first Rock air assaulted from the Black Hawks which zoomed in just above the treetops and swooped into Landing zones to drop re Chenhall training area at 10000 feet in the German Alps to simulate the High Altitude conditions in Afghanistan Bloom said the exercise covers a Large area that replicates regional command East in Afghani Stan it relies on a mrs exportable instrumentation systems which allow cameras and sen sors to record action at Remote Sites and beam it Back to observer controller teams at Hohen Fels for use in after action reviews he said to add realism to the exercise the army contracted for 500 arabic speakers while the 173rd was originally slated to de ploy to Iraq it is now going to Afghanistan
