   Pacific Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - October 10, 1948, Tokyo, T�ky�                                This 5s a Story retold of the most spectacular event at club Filipi Niana Okinawa which was the Barrio fiesta country festival celebrated recently at the 44th inf is area. The Celebration was patterned after the local Barrio fiestas in the Philippines which Are held in commemoration of the feast of the Patron Saint and usually sponsored by the Catholic sects. It started from the main Camp Entrance following the main Street and wound to the Barrio a site. There were six beautifully adorned jeep floats bearing the Queen and Consort and her five maids and their escorts. The Queen s float was draped just like a typical Duck boat which usually leads a Fluvial Parade during fiestas in the Philippines. A Tula poem in tagalog was then dedicated in Honor of the Queen. The Climax came with the crowning of her majesty Evangeline i by miss Wadden daughter of col. Edward p. Wadden then co of the 44th in Fantry regt. Is. The Coronation was followed by a series of filipino Fife dances such As Sala Kot dance Surtino it Liday Fandango a Haw tinkling Bakyta Moro dance and musical numbers rendered by guest artists. Estimated Overall attendance was More than 15000 with visitors from All Over the Island. Highlights of the Barrio fiesta Are shown in the photos above.
