It s very difficult to say to the Young people you re not supposed to get into the drug scene when people that they idolize Are into it. We have a Meriom problem especially the social acceptance of cocaine right now is a frightening thing absolutely frightening. And it s related Back to entertainers some of the people that we look up to Young people identify with a particular ent Ainer. My kids Young kids 7, 9, 11, the know entertainers and they idolize them. They have their posters up and they buy their records they identify with those people i have to look at it in a very positive Way. And we have to have some very serious talks Youdon t want to crush their ideals you Don t want to crush their fantasy if it is a fantasy. Hero worship is necessary for All of us. But that person that you look up to so much could literally change your life style. And i think that that person the entertainer the actor the sports hero has the responsibility of knowing that he s influencing somebody somewhere. I Only wish that i had been aware of that when i was with the crickets because obviously we reached a greater number of people and i m afraid threw away a lot of Good his stage show is a country based variety with afew hits of the crickets thrown in. He claims the crickets were in their own Way a country band even if they have gone Down in history As Rock n Roll. The combination of the Hank Williams Jimmy Rodg ers Ernest Tubb obviously Bob wills and the Texas Pla boys that influence coupled with a Black blues sound that i loved put together what you re seeing today As a Jerry same feeling that was shown in the great Black writers the writers who worked As Field hands an brought the Black music up to the new Orleans jazz sound the rhythm and blues sound that we know coun try music came from that. It was a spinoff of Naylor s pet project which he Hopes to see completed by february 1979, 20 years after Holly s death is a crickets Mudon album.
