The actual population loss was less a total of 442,000 Only because births among Resi dents remaining in the City exceeded deaths by 192,400.the net migration out of Brooklyn since 1970 reached 307,800 by july 1, 1976, and the comparable out migration totals for the Bronx and Manhattan were 128,700 and 122,500, respectively. The newly available projections by the census Bureau based on such factors As birth and death records and school enrol ment Are provisional ones reflecting changes from july 1, 1975, to july 1, 1976. They Are subject to amendment months from now after additional complicated data become available. A year ago the provisional estimates of changes for the period july 1, 1974, to july 1, 1975, also indicated a slowdown in the population loss. But later data reversed that conclusion. The new provisional figures for july 1, 1976, indicate that Manhattan a big popu lation loser since 1970, actually had a gain of 3,900 Between mid-1975 and mid-1976. As of july 1, 1976, the City s population was estimated at 7,453,600, compared with 7,895,563 in the 1970 census a loss of 5.6 per cent.
