Sweden retained the title it won last year Over the United states. Its first Davis cup championship came 10 years ago with a Victory Over Czechoslovakia and the swedes lost to Australia in the i9h3 final. Earlier sunday Wimbledon Champion Boris Becker evened the score for West Germany in the five match series at 2-2 when he Defeated French open Winner Mats Wilander 6-3,2-6,6-3,6-3. Westphal ranked 51st in the world appeared to be taking West Germany to its first Davis cup title when he won the opening set against Edberg the 19-year-old australian open Champion who is ranked fifth. But Edberg rallied to break Wostphal s booming serve in the 12th game of the Sec Ond set to level the score. The swede trailed again in the third set after dropping his service in he opening game but came Back to take the Lead and never looked Back. Wilander put Sweden ahead on Friday by winning the opening singles against Westphal. Becker Defeated Edberg to even the score but Sweden regained the Lead when Wilander and Joakim Nystrom won saturday s doubles against Becker and Andreas Maurer. Westphal appeared capable of creating a major upset when he broke Edberg a the sixth game to take the first set convincingly. Edberg broke Westphal in the sixth game of the second set but the West Ger Man immediately broke Back. Edberg saved two game Points As the 12th game went to five deuces then broke West Phal to win the set 7-5 and level the match. The turning Point of the match came in the sixth game of the third set. Edberg stretched to reach a Cross court shot by Westphal. The West German misjudged the Ball and let it go by him Only to see it Bounce just inside. Yugoslav beats Muhammad for Light heavy title Pesaro Italy a Slobodan Kacar of Yugoslavia won the vacant International boxing federation Light heavyweight championship with a 15-round split decision Over american Eddie Mustafa Muhammad saturday night. Becker gave Wilander a taste of what was to come when he served two aces in winning the opening game of the match. Becker appeared untroubled by a hip injury he sustained in training several Days ago. Wilander fell behind 0-40 on his serve saved two set Points but finally dropped the set when he sent two Back hands wide. Following a 10-Minutc break Becker came out of the locker room in a determined fashion breaking Wilander in the second game and taking a 3-0 Lead after allowing the swede no Points in the first two games. He served three game winning aces As he powered his Way to the four set Victory in two hours 16 minutes. Becker won the last set and the match when he held his serve at love in the final game the winning Point coming when Wilander sent a forehand Long.
