Not Only did they finish their season ranked no. 1 in the nation they took the Atlantic coast conference regular season Crown sunday by defeating their Arch rival no. 3 North Carolina 82-74. The nationally televised Victory enabled Indiana to gain a first place tie with Michi Gan going into the final week of the Confer ence race. It was the hoosiers 12th win in conference play. The big ten championship will be decided this week when Indiana closes at Michi Gan state and then at co Leader Michigan. The Hawk eyes came Back from 19 Points Down and trailed by Only one Point with Possession of the Ball with three minutes remaining. But Iowa missed two shots Al Ford made two baskets and Indiana s Winston Morgan put the game out of reach with a pair of free throws. Alford had 15 Points in the first half including six during a 15-4 spurt that gave the hoosiers a 40-22 Lead with three min utes left before intermission. Indiana took its biggest Lead at 64-45, seven minutes into the second half before a 24-6 burst brought Iowa Back into the game. The game saving baskets by Alford and free throws by Morgan pushed the hoosiers Lead to 76-69 with 44 seconds to go. Rick Galloway added 16 Points Andre Harris 15 and Darryl Thomas 14 for Indi Ana. Iowa was led by Gerry Wright Jeff Moe and de Horton with 12 Points apiece. Iowa which had beaten Indiana in each of their past three meetings fell to 8-8 in the big ten and 18-11 Overall. The hoosiers 20-6 Overall and tied with Michigan at 12-4 in the conference took a 6-0 Lead in the opening minutes. Alford had two of those Points on technical foul shots after Iowa coach George Raveling pro tested a personal foul on Wright. Moe got the free throws Back when Indi see College on Page 23
