She s quite a working with director Karen Arthur was a new experience for Ladd who had always had male directors in the past. There is a difference she says. I think Karen s approach to the love scenes was More open. Women find it easier to talk about eroticism and sensuality and relationships than men. I think men tend to cover their feelings by using locker room Macho talk. This is a romantic Story set in a romantic time before and during world War ii. People went together for two or three years before marrying. They did t hop into bed first thing. I think with the War with All the comings and goings relationships were despite the title this is not a nostalgic love boat. Crossings is based on the Best Selling novel by Danielle steel whose last four novels topped the new York times Best seller list. Much of it takes place in Paris where Aaron spelling productions filmed for two weeks and in san Francisco where they filmed for seven weeks. There Are two major sequences aboard ship says Ladd. The first is in 1939. It s very opulent with elegant ballrooms and staterooms. The second crossing is when my husband smuggles me out of France on a cargo ship after the nazi invasion. It s quite a she first feels a romantic attraction to Horsley on the first voyage and on the second voyage her ship escaping the War stops to pick up survivors of a u boat attack. Among them is Horsley who was also fleeing the invading germans. It was very difficult for me to play someone in love with two men at the same time Ladd says. I Don t think it s possible to be in love with two people. I think you can love two people but being in love is a one on one personal the miniseries is the second for Ladd. She was in a death in California last year with Sam Elliott. Ladd was born Cheryl Stoppelmoor in Huron s.d., and it was a Brief career As a band Singer after High school that brought her to los Angeles. She was cast As the voice of Melody in the animated cartoon series Josie and the pussycats. She also did a number of commercials including a major Campaign for Max Factor. But her career did t really take off until 1977, when she replaced Farrah Fawcett in the hit Abc series Charlie s Angels. She stayed with the show four years and it made her a Star. It certainly was an she says. Ladd made her to movie debut in 1979 in when she was bad. Since then she s done such movies As Romance on the Orient express Kentucky woman and Grace Kelly. She has also starred in a number of specials. Ladd made her theatrical movie debut now and forever which was filmed in Australia. She has also starred in purple hearts a Vietnam love Story shot in the Philippines. She enjoys doing movies and does t give much thought to doing another series. I Don t see myself in a series she says. I won t say never but not in the near future. It s difficult for me to play the same character Day after Day. It s stiff Ling. Films Are More of a Challenge. Playing the same character every Day is also a Challenge but i Don t think it creatively challenges you. Charlie s Angels was a Challenge in the beginning. It was such a popular show and coming in As i did was nerve wracking and pressure packed. But after the second year it was t a Ladd has an 11-year-old daughter Jordan from her first marriage to David Ladd. She has been married to composer Brian Russell since january 1981. He has a daughter Lindsay 9. Brian still works on his music but he sort of got burned out in the music business Ladd says. He produced Grace Kelly and two of my specials. He s now producing a theatrical film and developing a four hour movie for in the future Ladd wants to do a Broadway musical and a comedy. But Broadway will probably have to wait until the kids Are older she says. Ill keep working. I be got a few Good years left in the old Kung fun to Hamlet for Brandon Lee by Jerry Buck associated press Brandon Lee says he is More interested i Hamlet than following his late father Brucelee into martial arts stars with David Carradine in Kung fun the movie but he said he Hopes the first time he will play a martial arts expert is also his last. I want to do Many other parts said the 20-year old Lee. I Don t want to be stuck doing martial arts parts or just chinese parts. I want to do All kinds of things. I Don t want to be seen As Bruce Lee s son and nothing Carradine reprises his role As Caine a shaolin priest who roves the old West. The time is 20 years after the end of the series which ran on Abc from 1972-75. In the movie a manchurian with a death warrant for Caine comes from China accompanied by a Young martial arts expert named Chung Wang Lee. Although his life is in danger Caine exposes an opium smuggling plot. Lee was working As a Gofer for a production company when he had a Chance meeting with casting director Lynn stall master who was trying to cast the part of the Chung Wang. Lee auditioned four times before he was accepted. I was Well prepared for the said Lee. I be been doing martial arts All my he is an expert in Yee Chuan Tao which he said is a study of my body As Well As my mind. I think of picking up this Glass. I m cognizant of the Way you re sitting and of any moves you May make. It s not a series of moves. A movement is meaningless if it does t have a spiritual meaning behind it. It s the same with acting. You can fake anger by grimaces but it has no emotion behind it. Martial arts is a creative medium just As acting is a creative medium. It helps me with my movements which helps me As a person which helps me As an Lee also studied acting with the late Trainer Lee Strasberg and at Boston s Emerson College. He considers new York acting coach Eric Morris his Mentor. He studied martial arts with his father but stopped when his father died. Later he resumed studying with Danny i Asonto a senior student of Bruce Lee s. I do All of the martial arts you see me doing in the a photo Cheryl Ladd is pleased to have a woman dire Tim her in the miniseries movie Lee in my mind they re All realistic. I did t use any springboards or trampolines. But i am an actor first and a martial arts artist second and it All has to fit the period. There d be moves More prevalent then than now. I would use those moves because i m an actor not someone trying to show off his martial arts skill. And if i were asked to play a 13th-Century taoist Monk i d research How a Monk was trained so i could play it properly and not As a 20th-Century 20-year-old the 6-foot Lee is considerably taller than his father who died in 1973 at the Peak of his popularity. Bruce Lee had Little Success in Hollywood but in Hong Kong he became a legend in the chop Socky movies. I get a lot of Calls to make movies in Hong Kong he said. I m going there in february to talk to some people. I m averse to making Kung fun movies. But there Are other films to be made. My aim is work in America but i would t mind having a foot in Hong Kong. I d be a fool to say hey i want to make it on my own i used to feel that Way. But i m Bruce Lee s son and that la get me in some doors. Once inside however it s up to me to do it on my
