Mass who fractured his shoulder in the International race of champions at Daytona last month when his Camaro hit the Wall is expected to recovery in time to partner with Wollek for the opening championship race. That will be on april 20 at Monza because the nugello Italy opener scheduled for april 6 has been cancelled. For the Veteran sports car Driver Wollek his appoint ment by porsche fulfils a lifetime ambition. He has been racing private entry porsche cars for Many years and As a Privateer has won the porsche cup six times. This makes him the most successful Driver in the 16 year history of the porsche cup awards. During the 1984 and 85 seasons Wollek drove for the italian Lancia team. Continuing on the sports car scene England s Derek Warwick and Rome based american Driver Eddie Cheever Are expected to Lead the two Jaguar team in this season s world championship Campaign with the no. 2 Jaguar to be driven by Italy s Gianfranco Brancatelli and Frenchman Jean Louis Schlesser. Warwick was with Renault in formula one racing last year and Cheever drove for Alfa Romeo but both Renault and Alfa have left grand prix racing and Warwick and Cheever Are out of work in that Field. Cheever however is the conditional no. 2 Driver on the formula one Tyrrell team that drive depending on sponsorship. Regardless the fact that Warwick and Cheever will be working for Jaguar is Good news indeed. Both Are first rate Drivers and Jaguar which returned to world championship Long distance racing last year could do Well this season. On the motorcycle front please note that the Spanish grand prix opening race in the 1986 world championship Road racing Campaign will be held on May 4 and not april 27, As listed in last week s Cycle Calendar. The Spanish up will be staged on the Jarama circuit North of Madrid. Up Cycle riders meanwhile received some Good news this week when the International motorcycling federation reported from Geneva Switzerland that it will increase total prize Money for the next two seasons by about one third. The increase of More than $53,000 will take the form of increased travel reimbursements. The federation said it will make a particular Effort to Aid private racers who Are not supported by manufacturers. The increase will be distributed among All five racing classes and about a third of it will be paid out this season and the rest in 1987. Also on the Cycle scene we have two items of local interest one regarding a racing school and the other a Bow motorcycle club. Let s look at the racing school first. Cortez Lawrence who organized the Usa bad motorcycle performance school last year and staged two successful outings has announced the dates for this year s sessions. Three sessions Are planned All in Germany and they Are As follows nuer Burgering May 26 and july 14 and Bockenheim sept. 19. Classes begin at 8 . And continue throughout the Day. The sessions will feature at least five hours of track time along with classroom lectures and Riding demonstrations. Proper techniques for braking cornering and acceleration Are taught along with preparing to travel safety at racing speeds. The school is a non profit organization with its primary goals those of enhancing motorcycle safety and improving rider ability. The show opens thursday and runs through sunday March 16, at the exhibition Center near the Geneva International Airport. It s one of the top automotive shows in the world so if you re in the area Don t miss it. On the Competition scene the 27th Odenwalder div Motocross will be held near the town of Gross Bie Berau Southeast of Darmstadt German with practice on saturday and racing on sunday. The Motos will be staged for bikes in the 250 and Soock classes plus cycles with sidecars. In England the Snetterton circuit near Norwich is holding clubman motorcycle races on saturday and Champion of Snetterton motorcycle races on sunday. Motorcycle races Are also scheduled for sat urday at the Oulton Park circuit near Tarporley Southeast of Liverpool. In Sweden the world championship finals in motor Cycle Speedway ice racing will be staged on saturday and sunday at Stockholm. In the Netherlands meanwhile the opening round in the 250cc world Motocross championship will be held in Ven Ray East of Eindhoven with practice on sat urday and racing on sunday.
