His main character trait is ambivalence. To him getting married Means having to give up dreams of writing a novel and settling for a dead end advertising Job in order to pay the Bills. And it Only gets worse says an office Nebish who has been without a promotion for sons. Marriage also Means that sex becomes a duty especially when both sets of parents weigh in with not so Subtle hints about their eagerness to become grandparents. Kristy is All ears but Jake sees it As one More piece of his Freedom chipped away. His feet Aren t just cold they re approaching absolute Zero. Kristy begins to make him work overtime to impregnate her but Jake has this problem Low sperm count the result of his fondness for tight fitting jockey shorts. After switching to boxers and with the Aid of a Turkey Baster Don t even ask the Miracle is finally accomplished. Is the film Worth two hours of your time maybe. There Are funny moments especially when Jake periodically lapses into a daydream state in which he imagines himself promising to love Honor and provide multiple credit cards or sees his neighbors doing a perfectly choreographed sprinkler and Lawnmower musical number or fantasizes about an illicit tryst with another woman. But Hughes prevents Bacon and Mcgovern from Ever making their characters likable Lake is a spoiled self indulgent immature Jerk. Kristy is sue h a Pushy whiner that you might not blame Jake if he went ahead with his fantasies of infidelity. The ending is also Ultra bogus. Kristy has an agonizingly difficult birth filmed in stomach churning closeup and it is this that finally makes Jake realize what s important to him. Voila he instantly becomes an adult. Yeah sure.
