Ski jumper Mike Holland won the fourth event in the four Hill ski jumping tournament Friday becoming the first Ameri can to win any event in the Competition s 37 year history. The 27-year-old one time world record Holder had jumps of 111 and 107 meters respectively for a score of 218.5. However it was Finland s Risto Laakkonen who won the Overall tournament although he did not win a single event. With 841 Points he was ahead of Jens Weiss jog of East Germany and Finland s superstar three time olympic Gold medallist Matti Nykanen who held 838.5 Points each. Second placed in Friday s event Ari Pekka Nikkola of Finland had the longest jump Overall with 112.50 in the second heat and a total of 217.50. Sweden s rising Star Jan by Loev who won the third event at Innsbruck earlier this week came in third in Friday s fourth and final event with jumps of 108 and 111.5 for a score of 215. West Germany s Dieter Thoma who followed Weissflog in the tournament standings with 837 Points in fourth place came in fifth in the Bischof Hofen jumping after Norway s Jon Inge Joe rum who took fourth with 214.5 after jumps of 106 and 108 meters. Thoma who continued to Lead the world cup standings soared 103 and 111 meters for a score of 214. Sixth was Norway s Ole Gunar Fidje Stoel with 213.5 after jumps of 104 and 109. With his historic win Friday giving him an 802.5 Point aggregate and thus 8th place in the Overall tournament standings Holland was propelled to 11th place in the Overall world cup standings with 43 Points.
