The first spin off from this show was Maude which aired in september of 1972. It starred Bea Arthur and Bill Macy As Maude and Walter Findlay Maude was Cousin to Edith Bunker Jean Stapleton. Then came Good times in 1974, starring John Amos and Esther Rolle As James and Florida Evans and Jimmie Walker As their son . The next spin off from All in the family was the Jeffersons which first aired in january of 1975 and starred Sherman Hemsley As George Jefferson owner of a highly successful dry cleaning business and resident of Manhattan s East Side along with wife Louise Isabel Sanford and son Lionel Mike Evans. All of these were Good shows not pathetic excuses to capitalize on the Success of their predecessors. This can t be said however for just the ten of us the growing pains spinoff. A four episode preview of the series was scheduled to air on an beginning Friday at 7 25 . 6 25 in the United kingdom but was preempted by the inauguration. So sad. The show stars Bill Kirchenbauer As Graham Lubbock football coach at the new York City High school attended by Mike Seaver Kirk Cameron and his sister of growing pains. It also stars Deborah Harmon As his wife. The Lubbock have five girls two boys and one on the Way hence the title. The show begins As Lubbock accepts a Job at an All boys Catholic school in Eureka calif., and the family Heads West. For the viewer it s a trip in the wrong direction just the ten of us lacks comedic timing talented actors likable characters and a believable plot. In other words it stinks. Horowitz still waging War on realistic toy guns by Richard de Atley associated press for the 17 months since a disturbed Man walked onto the Knic news set and pointed a toy gun at consumer reporter David Horowitz he has waged a personal Campaign against lookalike play weapons. Horowitz a 22-year Veteran reporter who covered the Vietnam War for Abc has had some of his longest Days and nights wrangling with manufacturers and retailers Over toy guns that look real. It was a Daisy by pistol that looked like a Colt .45 automatic pistol that Gary Stollman pointed at Horowitz on aug. 19, 1987, demanding that Horowitz read a Handwritten statement while on the air. Horowitz complied but the broadcast went nowhere after a few seconds because Knic news director Tom Capra ordered the station to go to Black shut Down the broadcast signal. I was Lucky i had my Reading glasses on said Horowitz referring to the bizarre barely legible statement handed him by Stollman. During the Short time the incident was on the air Horowitz calmly asked the name and Hometown of Stollman the son of a Knic reporter whose contract was not renewed that summer. It was the Only thing i could think of Horowitz said. I also thought that if i could get out a few hints to police of who this was and where he was from they could follow the broadcast journalist was questioned by Stollman about the sudden appearance of the stand by messages on studio monitors. Technicians were on strike at Abc at the time and Horowitz told Stollman that while there were occasional difficulties the station was still probably on the air. The last lines of Stollman s note stated the gun he was holding was a harmless toy. When Horowitz read that the 33-year-old Man put the pistol Down and 22 stripes Magazine january 19, 1989 up Gary Stollman holds a toy gun on David Horowitz. Was rushed by waiting police As news Anchor John Beard grabbed the gun. Stollman later was placed on three years of intensively supervised probation. Horowitz meanwhile intensified a Campaign he had already started against the marketing of realistic toy guns. The Effort almost a second career comes in addition to his consumer reporter Job at Knic and his syndicated fight Back show. Burbank calif., the City where Knic s studios Are located was the first locality to ban the Sale of realistic toy guns in August 1987. Los Angeles Oakland and san Francisco followed suit. And in october 1988, California gov. George Deukmejian signed a statewide ban on the Sale manufacture and distribution of replica firearms. But a few weeks after the state legislation was signed Horowitz got a Telephone Call from Washington and he Learned that All his personal campaigning was about to be crushed. A congressional source told him that sen. Robert Dole r-kan., had attached a rider to a late session Energy Bill. The rider called for some part of toy guns to be made of Bright Orange plastic and the Federal Law would supersede the tougher state and local Laws already passed. I took this very personally said Horowitz who has campaigned in 15 states and As Many As 30 cities across the country. He also estimates he has received 75,000 pieces of mail on the subject. Horowitz spent the next few Days on the Telephone. A toy manufacturer lobbyist did t return his Call. Neither did Dole although members of his staff told Horowitz they were unaware of the Impact the rider could have on state and local Laws. Horowitz said Sens. Alan Cranston and Pete Wilson and rep. Mel Levine All of California helped Frame Compromise wording that leaves tougher state and local Laws in effect. The language about using Bright Orange plastic remained and Horowitz has criticized it because fluorescent Orange tape can make a real gun look like a toy or Black paint can make a toy gun look real. But what i did t want to see most of All was a Bill that would have killed state and local legislation on guns said Horowitz and we did get the Preemption clause out of the Horowitz estimates the toy Industry makes $300 million annually from the sales of All types of toy guns. They Tell me that kids want to play with toy guns and parents want to buy them. But the Bottom line is Bucks he said. I m not saying kids should t play with toy guns but they should play with toy guns that look like
