European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - January 22, 1989, Darmstadt, Hesse Sunday january 22,1989 the stars and stripes Page 25 Csc dominates Greco roman by Walt Morrissette staff writer Rhein main a West Germany what a Dif Ference a year makes. Alconbury s Dan Wrasman came into saturday s Safe Greco roman wrestling championships with 12 straight pins in Safe action at 114 /2 pounds since 1987 Only to suffer a rib injury in a first round loss to eventual Champion Richard Davis of Sembach who was competing in his first Safe championship. Rhein main s Keith Ellis a six time All air Force wrestler out of lock Haven state pa., at 180 /2, and the 1988 Safe Greco roman and freestyle Champi on at 180 /2, moved up to 198 and won the 89 Greco title. Also moving up was Cyrus Wynn of Fairford who won both 88 Safe titles at 125 /2, but moved up to the 136 /2 class this year and won the Greco title. For Ron Reynolds of Hahn the fourth time was the Charm at 125 a. He won his first Safe Greco roman title after finishing runner up for three straight years including a loss in 88 to Wynn in the 125 /2 final. Overall the Continental sports conference won seven of the nine Greco roman weight classes. Wynn took the Only title for the . Sports conference and Brian Van Bausch of san Vito Italy 163 captured the Lone title for the Mediterranean sports Confer ence. Also winning titles for the Csc were Andrew Mcclinton of Span Dahlem at 149 /2, Jeffery Simpson of Kleine Brogel at 220 and Scott Coughlin of Rhein main who was the Only Safe Van Bausch wrestler entered at 220-plus 286 weight limit. Csc coach Ron Pineda coached the All air Force team for two years before coming to Rhein main. He also hosted the air Force trial Camp at Mather fab Sacramento Calif., four years. He has coached Ellis at each level. Physically and mentally Ellis is the Best wrestler in Safe wrestling the air Force Pineda said. He s always been a Cou ple of Points away from the interservice title. He s going to break through this Ellis said moving up 18 pounds to 198 was not a problem. I actually like it better at 198 because i have More Competition said Ellis. But that s the Beauty of wrestling. Wrestlers build up their bodies and Cut All the fat. At the All air Force Camp at the air Force facade my i got my body fat Down to 4.4 Ellis said to be successful you have to train really hard and take control of the mat. I m 29 now and it seems like i be been wrestling after wrestling for aviation High school in new York City Ellis went on to lock Haven state. I was a freshman when Paul Rohler the v corps coach was a senior Ellis said. He kicked my butt All the time. Lock Haven is ranked up there with Iowa and Oklahoma state even though it s a Small school in the Pennsylvania Ellis does t have a preference for Greco roman or freestyle. I try to build up both because you have to do both at interservice Ellis said. I want to train for the 92 olympics in Barcelona. I missed the 88 trials because i was Over Pineda said he moved Ellis up from 180 pounds to 198 to allow teammate Charles stranger of Span Dah Lem to compete in Safe at 180. Ellis downed stranger 15-0, 15-0 in Greco and in freestyle in the Csc championships at Rhein main. The strategy worked. Stranger took the Safe Greco at 180, and Ellis won it at 198. The Csc was guaranteed the 114 /2 title when after Davis beat Wrasman Davis advanced to the final against Joeseph Nutall of Rhein main. Davis who wrestled in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia before joining the air Force shut out Nutall 9-0 for the title. I m not sure How he Wrasman got Hurt Davis said. The gut wrench might have done Davis used the Man Euver on one of his take Downs and it Hurt Wrasman in the lower left area of his rib Cage. Wynn pinned Ryan Tackett of upper Heyford at 2 57 to take his second straight Greco title. His biggest Challenge has been finding training opportunities. With the . Cancelling their tournament i Only had one meet this year Wynn said. The scottish National team scrimmage Lakenheath in december. Earlier we had six Guys wrestling out of Fairford his Home base. Now i train with Heyford. The rest is on my own lifting Light weights curls for the upper body before the season and cutting Back during the Wynn played High school football at fort Lauder Dale fla., but he said he prefers wrestling. Wrestling s rougher than football. It takes a lot of self motivation to train on your own but the More you put into it the More you get out of it Wynn said. Reynolds who won the 87 Safe freestyle title at 125 /2, broke through in Greco for 89. He also finished second in Safe freestyle in 86 and 88. He has been the Csc Champion in both Greco and freestyle three years running. In the final against Brett Mccahan of Sembach Reynolds rolled up 16 Quick Points four on an Over head Flop to put Mccahon on his Back before he pinned him at 2 26 for the title. Reynolds improve his game since the 88 Safe meet with constant wrestling and training in events. I be been wrestling All year said the Lansing mich., native. I went to the Usa eur Camp where they had instructors from the states. I also wrestled in the invitationals at Darmstadt bad Kreuz Nach Berlin Baum older an Giessen and then at Rhein main for Csc and Safe. I pinned seven Guys at Csc Reynolds said each one in less than a minute and a half. That s my goal to pin Reynolds three straight Greco pins saturday is a record Streak in Safe wrestling. Freestyle is scheduled to begin sunday at 11 a.m., and Wrasman May still compete in that Competition depending on How much his sore ribs mend overnight. The weigh ins Are at 10 30.
