   European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - February 19, 1989, Darmstadt, Hesse                                Page 24 the stars and stripes sunday february 19,1989 Munich boys girls win regional Karlsruhe West Germany the Munich Mustangs pulled away from Berlin in the last two min utes to claim the title in the Small schools Southern regional boys tournament saturday Downing the bears 66-62. The Mustangs were led by Junior Dean with 22 Points Steve Bright with 19 and Mike Burtt with 12. The bears who beat Augsburg 68-59 earlier in the Day to Advance to the final were led by Shawn Garri son s 20 Points Renard Owen s 12 Points and 27 re Bounds and Earl Mcdonald s 11 Points. Munich which had Defeated Ansbach 74-49 in a semifinal match earlier in the Day led 32-25 at half time before the bears outscored them 19-15 in the third Quarter to pull within 47-44 going into the fourth Quarter. Munich girls 45, Baum older 41 Munich Munich s girls won the Southern regional title by beating Baum older 45-41 saturday. Lauri Malone locked up most valuable player Hon ors by pouring in 26 Points for the Mustangs who Advance to the Small schools tournament where they will open against the Northern regional s fourth place team. Baum older advances against the North s no. 3team. Malone also grabbed a game High 18 rebounds. Kristine Manuel contributed 10 Points and 5 assists High school basketball for Munich and Ronnie Loomis added 7 Points. For Baum older Pam Williams scored 12 and hauled Down 17 boards. Anjanette Kirkland had 11 Points and 11 rebounds. Shannon Meitner scored eight Points and Trinia Mccall dished out seven assists. Malone led the All tournament Parade which includes her sister Tami. Williams made it for Baum Holder Maria Armstrong for Vilseck Twyla Scott for Augsburg and Nicki Coleman for Berlin. Brussels girls 48, Giessen 32 Hahn a West Germany the Brussels girls beat Giessen 48-32 in saturday s final of the Small schools Northern regional. Masquida James scored 17 Points and Jenny Ryall 12 to Lead the brigands to the top seeding out of the regional. They Advance to the Small schools championships thursday through saturday at shape Belgium where they will open against the Southern regional s fourth seed. Giessen also advances and will open against the South s third seed. Brussels bolted to a 11-4 Lead Midway through the first Quarter. Giessen closed to 14-10 by the end of the period but then came the James gang better known As Masquida James. The freshman guard produced three Slick passes and eight Points in the second Quarter As Brussels gained a 24-16 halftime Lead. James fourth foul benched her with 4 40 left in the third Quarter. Shape boys 49, Brussels 46 Hahn West Germany Jarvis Toler hit six of his nine Points in a key third Quarter spurt for shape to help the spartans beat Brussels 49-46 in the Northern regional final saturday. Shape broke a 24-24 halftime tie by outscoring Brussels 20-12 in the third Quarter. The spartans led 46-36 with 5 45 left before holding off the brigands charge on a 10-3 run. . Bragg scored on a drive and dropped in three free throws in the run. Brussels closed to 48-46 with 1 16 left but could get no closer As Toler closed out the scoring with a free throw with39 seconds left. Andre Pizzato and Jimmy Parker led shape with 12 each.
