Daniclak Sager Man won a $2,000 scholarship based on her Grade average school activities and organizations Community service and a project. Sagerman was Anniela Sagerman required to submit a project to the scholarship committee detailing ways education is preparing students for the future. The Competition which encouraged kids to study history and geography took place in schools across the United states and is part of a program called discover Early America. The 2-Ycar-old contest is designed to help combat the Lack of geographic knowledge among Young americans. The school will re Cicic $1,000 to Purchase educational materials. Providing you count hand drawn and hand bound volumes and those with laminated pages that is. With that in mind the school District sponsored a Young authors conference in Baum older on May 7, an event that attracted More than 150 school age writers from 19 schools. A we wanted to provide an Opportunity for our Young authors to be recognized a said Candace rans ing District superintendent. A we wanted to give everyone a students in particular a a Chance to see what others had during the Daylong conference students talked with two published writers read their Peers work and shared ideas hints and problems. The sessions also were attended by 38 teachers and several parents who served As chaperones. The students brought their books Many laminated illustrated and bound to be loaned to the District. The books will become a travelling collection spending time in each schools Library during the next school year. Nearly a Quarter of the More than 16,000 students in the Kaiserslautern District wrote a Book As part of the Dodds Germany writing project which encourages Young people to write Ransing said. Eight students representing Book authors in each of the schools took part in the conference. Books included works of fiction essays poetry and collections of Short stories. Smith elementary school in Baum older has sponsored authors Days Tor the past three years according to Noreen Matini a teacher at Smith. The number of students interested in becoming authors increased from 20 the first year to 475 this year she said. Because of the interest shown at Smith District officials extended the program to All District schools and plans have already begun for next years conference
