In fact you May be feeling it several Days after the trip is Over but it s Worth the aches and pains. T he Farmer who looks like a Distant Dot to the Driver streaking Down the autobahn becomes a Friendly face who puts Down his Rake and Waves to the bicyclist pedalling Down a country Road. Camping Sites Are shared with fast germans who Putter into campgrounds in their trabant a on vacation perhaps or looking for a Job. Gulen tag is replaced by a Friendly Gross Gott from the bavarian whose Homes often Are brightly decorated with murals and Flowers. I drove to Chi Emsee West Germany and after camping there i hiked to Berchtesgaden and then across the austrian Border into Salzburg. I took a train Back to Chi Emsee although Highway 304 is supposed to be a moderate return route for cyclists. The renovated armed forces recreation Center Campground in Chi Emsee is like a pair of new leather shoes that need a Little Wear and tear before they become soft and comfortable. Just ask staff sgt. Ron Perrin who made pretzels out of his Metal tent pegs while trying to Hammer them into the ground. But he said that was a Small Price to pay for a camping area that offers so much and is so near one of Germany s largest lakes. The new elevated campsites proved their Worth when Perrin and his wife Julie and their two children stayed High and dry during a rainstorm. Ever time we come we have a great time and others say that  even though her 3-year-old daughter Ana developed a mild Case of Chicken pox on the family s first Day there Richter said she had enjoyed herself while keeping Ana occupied at the Camp playground and Beach across the Street. Meanwhile her husband Greg a psychologist at a military Hospital in Augsburg West Germany took a sailing course. As a Mother Richter said she especially appreciated the Shady Beach area where Ana could play. She also appreciated the Low level lighting throughout the Campground that made for Safe going when walking to the bathroom at night. There Are about 120 camping Sites for tents and trailers at the Chi Emsee travel Camp which is about 50 Yards from the autobahn that separates the Lake and Campground. The Campground includes a Well stocked cafes Shorette a it Quot Lias everything a camper could want Quot Richter said a plus a snack bar game room laundry facilities stripes Magazine june 21, 1990
