The mystery surrounding Barnhart s disappearance ended Friday when he called his wife from Strasbourg France. Afterwards he boarded a train and arrived in Mannheim on Friday night. He walked from the train station to his apartment in Blumenau West Germany. Once Home he called the non commissioned officer in charge of his unit and reported Back for duty. Barnhart said he is now present for duty and on a pass. A spokesman for the division has said he did not know whether Barnhart would be considered absent without leave or a deserter. Army statutes describe a person who is awol As one who remains absent from his place of duty at a prescribed time. A deserter leaves with the intent to stay away. The barn arts problems started when they bought a 1972 Mercedes 3505lc from chaplain Cape Rick d. Brock. The couple paid $10,125 for the car which quit running after three Days. An Engineer later certified that the car was unsafe to drive and placed its value at just a 10th of what the couple had paid.
