While Riding in a taxi from la Guardia Airport into the City we began to make Small talk with the Driver who seemed exceptionally pleasant and Friendly. We asked about his family and he proudly told us about his wonderful wife and Fine children. Then he asked about ours. We told him that we had raised nine children a a four of our own and five we adopted three korean girls and two boys from Vietnam. The cab Driver seemed very much interested in All the details. He told us How Nice we were and How fortunate our children were to have found a Home with  Loving people. We assured him that the Good Fortune was ours since we have had so Many wonderful Happy years together. When we arrived at our hotel i  understand Why my husband was taking so Long to Settle the fare with the Driver. When he finally came into the hotel he explained that the Driver refused to accept the fare which was $25. He kept repeating a you Are  Good people please let this ride be on  my husband told him a absolutely not a and insisted that he accept the Money. In a sure new yorkers will find this Story hard to believe but its True. Personally i love new yorkers and i think their cabbies Are the greatest. A p k. Dear Ann Landers i recently read your column about a molester who went for counselling and received Only one year in jail. Three years ago my 17-year-old son agreed to confess to touching a child after he was promised by the state that he would be Given professional help. After he confessed the tables quickly turned and he was labelled a criminal. The arresting detective said a if that was my kid. Id shoot  our son was convicted of one count of molestation first offence and received 12 years with no parole. This is the minimum sentence for Cirild molestation in Arizona. Since that time he has received no psychiatric help no counselling and no assistance of any kind. He sits in his cell Day after Day waiting for the 12 years to be up. By now the child May have forgotten the five minutes of touching but for us the suffering goes on a maybe for the rest of our lives. Can you Tell me Ann where is Justice Why can a terrible thing like this happen if you live in the wrong state i am heartsick and cannot understand this cruel sentence that May ruin a Young Many a life. I agree however that 12 years with no Chance of parole is an extremely harsh sentence for a first offence especially for a 17-year-old. The question or i should say reply that prompted this letter was the explanation of commissary stocking of diet soda. The writer asked Why we in Europe Only received diet soda sweetened with a Nutrasweet saccharin blend instead of the 100-percent Nutrasweet. The reply to this question was straightforward All right but i have to question the Validity of it. We were told that our diet sodas come from the states and consequently the sugar substitute Content does not differ. Over the two year period i have spent in Europe i have yet to Lay eyes on a 100-percent Nutrasweet diet soda. Maybe i live in the wrong part of the country or too Remote an area. I would like to know How Many diet soda drinkers out there Are enjoying the 100-percent Nutrasweet sodas. I know that the diet soda sold in the United states is 100-percent Nutrasweet. I also know the difference in taste is noticeable. So Why Are we being told that we la re drinking the same diet soda our fellow americans in the states Are drinking i realize there Are More important issues than the contents of a diet drink. Although it is True that diet Pepsi and Coke Are produced in the United states in both forms either 100-Perccnt Nutrasweet or with the blend due to consumer pressure these companies have found that the Only sodas that sell in the states Are the ones with 100-percent Nutrasweet the writer of the original letter asked Why the commissary supplied popular diet sodas with the Nutrasweet saccharin blend not whether the soda contain any Nutrasweet at All. The main Point is that diet sodas sold in the United states do contain 100-Perccnt Nutrasweet. If cafes can Only order items that Are on the authorized list then it is time they change that list to include distributors that Supply diet sodas containing 100-percent Nutrasweet. Is this the current trend in the u.s.? or arc the beverage manufacturers conspiring to give us diet soda drinkers cancer by using saccharin yes my diet soda was packaged in the United states Cheraw s.c., to be exact.
