Wooten used to zip around that track in his heyday but saturday he Only wanted a to walk the track with coach and Tim and reminisce a  a a coach was Ted Hosner and a a time was Tim Var Ian. All three were part of a contingent of alumni who participated in the Kaiserslautern reunion last weekend. Hosner coached the red raiders Back then and Wooten and Varian ran legs on the record setting 1,600-meter relay team along with Bill Perkins and Frank Slemp in 1962. The next Spring Wooten set the overseas High school 100-meter record at 10.6 and the 200-meter Mark at 21.9. He also competed in the 400 meters relays and Long jump during his three years at Kaiserslautern. The oldest record by far on the Dodds Book the 100-meter Standard still holds although it has been matched by Munich a Mike Mcfarland Madrid a Bill Tooke Wiesbaden a Mike Davis and bit urge a Ken Smith. A record breaking 10.58 was listed for Smith following the 1979 race. However it was a hand timed clocking and track and Field rules say that hand timed times must be bumped up to the nearest 10th of a second. Another sex Kaiserslautern luminary 1984 olympic 400-meter Champion Alonzo Babers holds the Dodds 200 Ana 400-meter records at 21.5 and 47.7, respectively. A i knew Alonzo had broken the 200 record but i did no to know until recently my 100 time was still standing a Wooten said. A i set that on a cinders track with no curbs and i was sure with the much improved surfaces of today that someone had erased my name from the record Book. Even this track is better than  the Vogel Weh track is a red Brick dust Oval Fine in its time but nothing like the artificial turfed surfaces used by Many modern Day Dodds athletes a i was very fortunate when i was competing a i never lost a race in High school and i still have the seven Gold medals i won at Kaiserslautern a Wooten added. A it has been a Long time since i stood on this track but i am glad i was Able to make it Back for this  Wooten went on to san Jose state and competed in track there for two seasons before going into the air Force getting his 200-meter time Down to 20.8 and his 400-meter time to 46.4. He was a member of a mile relay team that set a freshman collegiate record at the los Angeles coliseum. Two of the other runners were Juan Carlos and Tommy Smith of olympic Fame. Wooten and Varian were part of a 50-person stateside contingent that came for the three Day reunion which was organized by 1965 Alumna Rosina Pate Christensen and included representatives from 29 graduating classes dating Back to 1954. The idea of a reunion in a town developed at a similar ceremony that Christensen organized in Houston in 1988 Ana was attended by More than 1,300 red Raider alumni.
