European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - October 25, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse Thursday october 25, 1990 the stars and stripes a Page 11anil Landers dear Ann Landers recently you printed a letter from a Hospital lab technician who reported on the changes m Hospital procedures since aids. A a a f in Texas wrote a my Hospital provides five sets of protective lab Coats for each Techm-ri.,n we Wear Latex gloves when we work with body fluids. When we do an autopsy on an aids c be we Wear Waterproof hooded jumpsuits shoe covers surgical masks face Shields and double surgical in your response you said a people who work with body fluids of aids patients must be extremely cautious. It can be a matter of life and if Well educated professional technicians take All these precautions to protect themselves head to toe from aids Why am i constantly being told that All i need to protect myself is a condom which is nothing More than a puny piece of rubber everyone knows sex involves body fluids and condom testing has shown failure anywhere from 2 percent to 10 percent depending on whose figures you want to believe. Would you get on a plane if you knew that one out of every 10 planes was going to crash please Ann Tell teen agers and everyone else that Safe sex is no sex at least not until marriage. Alive and Well in Youngstown dear Youngstown i have said that condoms should not be considered Complete Protection against either pregnancy or disease. They can break leak or come off. Abstinence is indeed the Only a a methods that is 100 percent reliable. Dear Ann Landers you will probably think i am making this up so i am sending you the newspaper clipping. As you can see there is a picture of a Darling Little girl who appears to be about 3 years old. She is with her parents. The clipping says they Are High school students and the child is announcing their upcoming marriage. I am neither a Square nor am i an old fogey but i am not ready for this. Is it a new fad Ann children announcing the marriage of their parents i would like to know what you think about this. Florida Reader dear Florida it is unconventional to put it mildly but at least they Are getting married. Beyond that i have no comment. Dear Ann Landers several people wrote to validate the legitimacy of anger toward an abusive Mother who favored one child and rained cruel words and rejection on the child who did everything possible to win her approval. Tell your readers that there a a Way for such people to get out from under the Burden of a hurting heart. Happy in Idaho c creators Syndicate letters Reserve guard recall draws comment we Are writing concerning the recall of Reserve and National guard troops. The recent press coverage has portrayed the Reserve and National guard soldiers As being imposed upon by the Call to Active duty. When a Soldier Reserve or Active signs his her contract he she does so with the understanding that a National emergency could arise at any time. With that emergency comes the Call to duty. Some Reserve National guard troops arc complaining that they will lose Money by being taken away from their civilian jobs. For Many the Reserve National guard paid for or is paying for the schooling needed to attain that Job. Other soldiers complain that they Are being taken away from their families and Are not prepared. Some Active duty troops had less than 12 hours notification prior to their deployment. The Reserve and National guardsmen receive several weeks notification in which the troops can take care of family or personal matters. These a a inconveniences a Are things people should have taken into consideration before signing on with the armed forces. We realize that the complainers Are a minority but they should be shown no pity. A commitment was made and now it is time to live up to that commitment. A sgt. 1st class James a. Shock cos a sgt.
