European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - October 25, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse Thursday october 25, 1990 the stars and stripes a a a Page 21 Money crunch curtails playoffs there will be a different scenario from Tim a a m prep pickings there will be a different scenario from the one originally planned for the 1990 Small schools football playoffs. The . Champion will be missing and a Germany Bennor wild card team will be substituted Dodds Atlantic sports coordinator de Watson called monday to announce that the Cross Channel Competition has been dropped because of the Money crunch. A budget uncertainties created by Congress have caused us to reach the decision to pull out of the Small schools playoffs because of the expense of the Channel crossing a Watson said. A we took a Good look at what it Cost to Send a team Woodbridge to Berlin last year and How much More it would Cost this year because of the Low Dollar. A we done to think it would be right to lose an entire sports program later in the year because we funded one rather expensive football game. A however a Watson continued a i want to Point out that football Isnit the Only area being singled out. We re making reductions across the Board in All our programs and we in Dodds Atlantic still Are strongly committed to a Good extracurricular program within the budget limitations. We know the key role such a program plays in the Overall school Watson a announcement comes just before the . Championship football game Between three time defending Champion Woodbridge and Croughton. The Winner of that game was supposed to play Host to the Germany a North Champion in one of the two Small schools semifinals nov. 10. Undefeated Woodbridge would have been seeking its fourth straight appearance a and its first win a in a playoff game against Cross Channel Competition the warriors who have won 28 straight . Conference and playoff games lost to the International school of Brussels Hahn and Berlin. The first two games pitted the . And Bennor champions against each other in the Dodds Atlantic title game. The Small schools format that was supposed to be in Vogue this year was originated last season. Watson said he is trying to arrange a game with the All Star team from the British youth american football association which has been on a journey to the United states and has been competing against Wisconsin High school teams As a substitute engagement for the . Champion. A it wont be the same As competing against one of the Good teams from the other Dodds leagues but under the circumstances it would be a Good game for our championship team a Watson a a champions of the three Germany Bennor leagues automatically qualify for the revised Small schools Field and the wild card team will be the second place team with the Best Overall percentage according to Dodds Germany sports coordinator Tom Leblanc. The procedure to determine the wild card team 1. The second place teams in a North a South and a Central qualify As wild card possibilities. 2. If two or More teams tie with identical records head to head Competition will be considered. 3. If the tie still exists records against common opponents will be considered. 4. If a tie still exists Between two teams Leblanc said provisions have been made for a playoff game nov. 3. Once a wild card team has been determined the following procedure will determine the semifinal pairings nov. 10 if the wild card is from a North the a North Champion will play at the a Central champions Field and the a South Champion will entertain the wild card team. If the wild card team is from a South it will play at the a North Winner and the a South Champion will go to the a Central champions Field. Then the procedure for the title game will be if either a South team wins it will play Host to the championship game. If both a South teams win the one with the Best percentage will be the Home Abrams with a South team wins the a North team a percentage will be the Home team. A into Orri it Annc a South tit is wil1 be determined saturday when Berlin invades Baum older and Ansbach entertains Fulda respectively. All Are 4-0 in league play. Berlin Baum older and two time de ii a8u a schools Champion Fulda Are 7-0 Overall. Ansbach is 6-1, having dropped a one Point decision at Berlin in a non conference game. The key game is the Fulda at Ansbach tussle. If Fulda wins both a North teams go to the playoffs because both the Winner and runner up will have a k ? the cougars Ansbach prevails both the a North and a South runners up will have to c5 s an it those records would be better than the a Central competitors because they would have played an extra game. If Fulda and Berlin both lose Berlin would be the wild card team because it has Defeated Ansbach and Fulda would have lost to the cougars. If Fulda and Baum older lose the two teams would still be tied because they did no to meet head to head and each beat common foes Bamberg Munich Vilseck and Oster Holz. So then the playoff game would be staged. The a Central representative might not be determined until nov. 3. If Brussels and bad Kreuz Nach both win this week As anticipated and Karlsruhe wins its last two games there will be a three Way tie for the league Crown with All teams at 5-1. If that occurs Brussels would have beaten Karl she Karlsruhe would have beaten bad Kreuz Nach and bad Kreuz Nach would have beaten Brussels and a Point differential plan would have to be used to determine the a Central representative. Brussels would be that team because it would be tied with Karlsruhe at plus-2. Bad Kreuz Nach would be minus-4, so Brussels would go by virtue of its Victory Over the knights. If Karlsruhe does no twin its last two games bad Kreuz Nach advances because of the same reason. I believe the Ideal thing would be to decide the wildcard Issue and Small schools cast on the Field instead of artificial head to head or common foe a a picking was a successful 18-4 venture last week raising the season record to 101-32-5, .759. The Toughie this week Are the a North and a South Battles. In those games Berlin tops Baum older 27-22, and Fulda nudges Ansbach 22-20. Woodbridge wins the . Title by beating Croughton 26-6. In the Italy semifinals its Aviano 36, Vicenza Gold 28, and Vicenza Black 28, Naples Green 22. The other picks look like Wurzburg 27, Frankfurt 21 Heidelberg 14, Ramstein 12 Wiesbaden 22, Kaiserslautern 12 Niernberg 26, Pitburg 19 Hanau 26, Giessen 12 Mannheim 28, Wei Brincken 18 Karlsruhe 27, afcent12 bad Kreuz Nach 18, Ulm 14 Brussels 33, Oesterberg 6 osterholz 26, Hahn 18 is 12, shape 6 Augsburg 35, Bamberg 6 Munich 18, Vilseck 14 Stuttgart 22, Patch 12 Torrejon red 36, Rota 20 Zaragoza 32, Torrejon White 26 this is the last big week of Competition with 21 games including the . Nairn bergs Santhony Wells and the Mannheim Trio of Dominic Vassar Jake Hunter and Lony Rodriguez were among others who sparkled on defense. A a a coaches meetings have been set for selecting the Germany Bennor All conference football teams. The a North and a South mentors will select their teams monday at Hahn and Ansbach High schools respectively. The other meetings Are scheduled for nov. 5, the aaa and a coaches convening at the no club at Benjamin Franklin Village in Mannheim and the a Central people at bad Kreuz Nach High school.
