European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - November 8, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse Ann Landers dear Ann Landers i read with interest the recent letter from the woman who complained that her father had remarried and moved into a one bedroom apartment with his new wife because she did no to want com Pany. The woman also complained that when she called to speak to her father the new wife did All the talking. I had a similar problem a few a. Years ago so perhaps i can offer some helpful advice. First find out when the wife a weekly social club Bridge club or Hairdresser appointment is and Call your father when she a not around. Second go see your father even if it Means staying in a Motel. Another suggestion a and less expensive a is to bring a sleeping bag and Tell them you will sleep on the living room floor. I am now Able to spend lots of time with my father but Only because he is terminally ill. His wife Calls me often to come a help out because she is exhausted. I was tired of sleeping on a Lumpy Couch and told her id be glad to help with dads care but Only if they moved to an apartment with a second bedroom. She agreed to it and they moved. I done to regret the weariness that comes from helping care for my father but i would have preferred to enjoy his company when he was Well. There a a moral to this Story somewhere. I Hope All stepmothers see it. A no name no place dear . Its sad but True that tragedy sometimes brings people together. I Hope it turns out that Way for you and your Stepmother. A dear Ann Landers my Girlfriend is terrific but i think we have a problem. Its her songs sleeping habits. A a Jason is 5 years old and will not go to bed unless his Mother lies Down with him until he Falls asleep. He ends up sleeping in her bed every night. He has his own bedroom with a Nice bed in it but he never sleeps there. A i resent the fact that when his Mother and i feel romantic we have to make love on the sofa because the kid is in his mothers bed. Jason is an adorable child and i do love him but this really irritates me. It also raises questions about our marriage. How will Jason feel about me sleeping with his Mother while he a in his own bed unsure in Kansas dear Kansas that Mother needs to Stop allowing her 5-year-old to sleep in her bed and its sure to be a problem after All this time. She should talk to her paediatrician about How to change her songs sleeping habits. The woman May need professional guidance. Dear Ann Landers a Hack you warned about borderline a Char they know just How far they can go without getting arrested. Meanwhile their mailings look wonderful and they really clean up. Please Tell me if the National children a cancer society inc., was one of the organizations you wrote about. Is this organization affiliated with the american cancer society i have been contributing to the latter for Many years and i need to know. Thanks for your help. ?., Effingham ill. Dear . A i did indeed write about the National children scan society inc. It raised $9 million of which Only $800,000 went for charitable purposes. The remaining $8.2 million was pocketed or spent on additional fundraising. This organization has no connection to the american cancer society which is 100 percent legit. C creators Syndicate thursday november 8, 1990 the stars and stripes Page 11 letters a writers discuss homosexuality issues the views von Nyhl Kph in harm a it i a .1 a ii you published on homosexuality seem to clash but i prefer a Middle ground a agreeing and disagreeing. Amp 6 one writer says Gays be discriminated against if they kept their sexuality to themselves. Maybe this writer should consider that most Gays Arentt concerned with the a Freedom to flaunt a but rather the Freedom from losing their apartments houses and jobs it their sexual orientation comes to Light. Sexuality has no place in the social environment a Hetero or Homo. I done to discriminate against people who Don t share my political views although i done to hang out with them either. The same should apply to a persons sexuality. The Bottom line is this if it does no to Avreet you it does no to concern you. As for the other writer he she stereotypes Gays As persons who a work harder to prove themselves and gain this statement is As stereotypical As Blacks like basketball or a Whites can to dance. To summarize none of us can be really free until we View each other As our own equal a regardless of color sex age religion National origin or sexual preference. I think it most unfortunate that because my personal views May seem to clash with the department of defense i must request that my name not be published. A name and location withheld a recent Issue contained two letters concerning homosexuals and the military. The writer of the letter critical of homosexuality closed by asking what it is that homosexuals want. I would like to offer a viewpoint. Homosexuals desire that our society accept their lifestyle on a parity with heterosexual relations. They wish to be affirmed by the courts As a Bona fide minority group so that there is Legal recourse against a a discriminatory acts against them. The courts become their target As most americans do not support homosexuality and therefore homosexual legislative and political action is non productive in most areas. Sadly the homosexual writer perceives not his or her untenable moral position As a voluntary member of the armed forces. An oath was taken to obey the orders and regulations governing a service member questions concerning homosexual tendencies were asked at pre enlistment screening. Where was the patriotic duty and Honor spoken of by the writer when his her homosexuality was denied i am not homophobic but i cannot be silent while someone demands Public Sanction of sinful behaviour. Regardless of the changing tides of Public opinion sin it is and sin it shall remain. So too then should Public disapproval of homosexual acts be sustained. A chief Petty officer David Gilmore Rota Spain How do homosexuals expect rights from the military How is a company commander going to discourage sex pen pals Ual relations in the Barracks when two of the same sexual preference bunk together it is hard enough with heterosexuals lets not even mention the new cases of sexual harassment that would occur. I am suggesting homosexuals have no place in the military. It does not matter How Many have served with impeccable records. God created Adam and eve not Adam and Steve. Homosexuals affect unit cohesion Esprit de corps and morale. The next thing you know they homosexuals Are going to want to change their names and get mar ried be eligible for government housing and adopt kids while the taxpayer foots the Bill. I agree the military is behind the times on a lot of issues but this is not one of them. Bravo to the Pentagon for not being pressured. Even if it closes every Roth program on every College Campus there will still be enough Young people willing to serve their country. You compare homosexuals with Blacks. Skin color is an inherited trait that comes with being a part of a particular race of people. Homosexuality is not a spec. Frederick a. Edwards Wiesbaden a Germany when people apply to become a member of the armed services they have to answer specific questions regarding their past. For example have you Ever engaged in a homosexual act or Are you a homosexual if they were to answer yes at that Point then they a probably be rejected. If they lie and say no and successfully get into the armed forces then they have to hide the Way they Are and Hope to get away with it. If it is discovered that this person is a homosexual they ought to be discharged. They have no reason to complain or moan that they Are discriminated against because of their sexual preference. They knew from the beginning that being a homosexual and being in the armed forces is not compatible according to directives issued by higher authorities. I have heard the View that if homosexuality was allowed and open in the military then everything would be a fall that May be True or not but i have to disagree. For example would the the Dod provide separate housing for them i doubt it because adequate housing at military installations is hard to come by even at the Best bases. Why would the Dod want to build separate housing for them even if this were possible that amount to the same As having unmarried heterosexual couples living in the same room big question Isnit it i know that personally i want a Roommate who was a homosexual if they were allowed openly in the military.
