Tough times remain i am writing in response to a letter to the editor titled a support appreciated v 1, too wish to thank the soldiers of Usa eur for the support they gave to operations desert shield and desert storm. Over the last nine months i think there were Long Days for just about All Servic members. The Long hours will probably continue until All of our troops Are Home. A v a. Quot a. A a a although this is True i think i have to take Issue with some of the comments made in the letter. I can appreciate the hardship of being away from ones family but How can the writer say a it is As hard if not harder on All of us knowing our loved ones were just an hour or so away. \ / it sounded As if this person was talking in past tense and is now reunited with her loved ones while Many of us Are still sitting Here in saudi Arabia Kuwait or Iraq waiting for redeployment. If we re Lucky its an hour wait in the line to use the phones just to talk to our loved ones. I will not bother to list the comforts available to the writer but not to those deployed because they Are self. Evident. Quot. A. I guess what really gets me is All these articles i read with people telling How bad they have it. I suppose its human nature to complain but come on lets keep it in perspective. I do agree though that All parties involved do deserve a Hearty congrats la. Tion. A a a spec. Tim Dyer operation desert storm Bahrain Oft limits we were notified March 28 that Bahrain was off limits effective immediately. The reason evidently two soldiers were driving drunk and ran Over and killed a citizen of Bahrain. I am not condoning their actions but i am responsible for the morale welfare and recreation of our organization. Our soldiers looked Forward to the twice weekly trips to Bahrain. I am writing because our servicemen Bers really Haye very Little recreational activity right now. Many Are merely waiting to be redeployed. They want to Purchase gifts for family and friends. They want to enjoy a Nice meal. And most of our service members have been conducting themselves responsibly. We will Honor the off limits decree. I have Only two questions. One Why Are we punishing thousands of servicemen Bers for the actions of two and second if the circumstances had been the same in the United states or Europe would it have been handled in this manner a sgt. 1st class Daryl d. Davis operation desert storm thanks bul no thanks As i was Reading the april 12 Issue of the stars and stripes i noticed a full Page advertisement thanking All the people and corporations who contributed to the support of soldiers and their families during the persian Gulf crisis. I noticed that the Daimler Benz corporation had made a contribution. 1 then recalled seeing a spot on an to showing one of the Daimler Benz executives making the company contribution to the armed forces. They had been gracious enough to donate the use of vans lease free for the duration of the crisis. Did you know that Daimler Benz also contributed directly to the War Effort they modified some of their trucks to enable them to launch missiles a scud missiles like the ones that killed More than 20 american soldiers As Well As Many innocent non combatants. Thanks but no thanks this is one american who will never Ever buy a Mercedes even if i could afford one a staff sgt. Lance r. Heckerman Wurzburg German the ultimate compliment i would like to thank the writer for his letter to the editor a Prima Donna pilots a dated april 15,1991. Jealousy is the ultimate compliment. A chief warrant officer Gregory Holmes Sancho fun Germany army pilots essential after Reading the poorly thought out letter on army aviators in the letters to the editor column i found myself insulted and somewhat angry As in a sure Many others did the writer appears to have the wrong idea of what army aviators do. He must have a desk Job in an easy military occupation specially. Aviation belongs in the . Army. Ask any Veteran of the Korea Vietnam Grenada Panama or the just fought Gulf War. They will Tell you about the role of army aviation. The next time the writer needs army aviation assistance a whether it be cobra gunships Apache tank killers medevac Black Hawks or troop support Huey a Lei him Call the air Force Jet pilots. My brother in Law is an air Force Pilot and he can Tell you How important the army aviators were during his eight months in the Gulf and throughout the Gulf War. Air Force jets can to land when and where there is a need a for instance wooded areas drop zones and to Fly out injured troops. They can to Fly in Sling loads of supplies either. The air Force jets can do flybys and wave their air plane wings at misinformed military officers who Knock their army aviator buddies without army a Prima Donna pilots daily military training missions Field exercises and wars would not be successful. Army aviators Arentt Prima Donnas. They Are however Brave proud men and women willing to give their lives for fellow comrades. A Jean l. Johnson bad Tolz German help the doctor As a family physician i have frequently encountered a Parent who tells a child a you better be Good or the doctors going to give you a this remark is made to a youngster who is already in a strange place full of strange machines and adult strangers Many wearing frightening White Coats. Its no wonder the child begins screaming the moment the doctor attempts an examination. Please parents a shots Are never used As punishment kindly do not state this to your child. In addition in a not Here to discipline children. Like the maps in Mon their Side try ing to prevent As Many diseases As possible and to help heal those that do occur. Remark letters to the editor like a Johnny the doctors going to try to make you better or a help us find out Why your ear hurts Are much More helpful. Some children will misbehave no matter what you do and we expect that now and then but threatening a Needle is never the answer. If a child grows up fearing medical care he or she May As an adult delay seeking care for a serious ailment. Like the maps the doctors nurses and medics Are Here to help you. The better we work together the More everyone will Benefit. A or. Maj Colin m. Greene my Nairn Borg German please print All sides i have read with some amusement the various letters addressing a a objectionable cartoons columns and stories. However the recent remarks in a letter to the editor published april 4, 1991, demand a response. I am not Overly familiar with the . Army s form of deductive reasoning but to demand an abrogation of the right of free press in order to please those who disagree with the Content regardless of whether they Are a a defending said rights seems a trifle hard to Swallow. Yes the stars and stripes is a a your paper but it is a a my paper also and i demand to hear both sides of each debate not just yours. As one who has recently seen a country with a one sided Media albeit from 20,000 fee until it becomes illegal to advocate a change in the Constitution i prefer to defend the entire document. A capt.
