The coalition parties a Christian democrats socialists social democrats and liberals a gave Andreotti Victory in parliaments upper House by 177 votes to 104 with no abstentions. The government won a similar Confidence vote in parliaments lower House the chamber of deputies by 339 to 207 Friday. The Senate vote meant the new coalition was formally installed As Italy a 50th government since world War ii and the seventh headed by Andreotti a Christian Democrat since 1972. In his closing speech at the end of the Senate debate Andreotti 72, stressed that despite its difficult birth amid party squabbling and political controversy he intended the government to stay in office throughout the final year of the current five year legislature. He said a major Benefit was that the formation of the new government averted new parliamentary elections a year ahead of schedule something none of the Par ties wanted. In the past 20 years no legislature has lasted its full term and premature elections have had to be held. Andreotti was forced to resign his previous government March 29 when the socialists of former prime minister Bettino Praxi refused to go along with his proposal for a simple Cabinet reshuffle and a revitalized economic program to see the country through to the Spring of 1992. Andreotti succeeded in Patching up the five party coalition but when the prime minister named his 32 ministers the Small Republican party pulled out because it said Andreotti failed to keep a Promise to con world firm three republicans in the same posts they held in the preceding government.
