Role models Are Good to have but i personally feel that Malcolm x is quite a poor one if the intent of the individual wearing him on his shirt is that of racial Harmony and not of prejudice. A spec. For David Owens to suggest that Fletcher is not a positive role Model because he brought to Light the very real concerns and fears of african americans and other people of color in Usa eur is patently ridiculous. Owens presupposes that african americans Are not capable of self determination and that Whites Are a fickle Bunch of questionable integrity and motive. Owens seems to believe that we Are an unsophisticated people who must rely on the guidance approval and endorsement of Whites before we can act or make an informed decision. Are we to believe that unless a person or project receives a rubber stamp of approval from the White Community that the person or project is not acceptable or up to Par 1 am insulted and offended to hear comments such As african americans believe that a everything bad that happens to a Black or in the Black Community is someone else a  Owens goes on to mention some of the ills that plague our communities. Contrary to his rhetoric collectively and As individuals we do Lake responsibility for what happens within our communities. We Are educating ourselves and others about the problems facing our communities and society at Large. Along with the education comes action to alleviate if not eradicate the problems. African americans do not exist independently of other ethnic groups. If teen pregnancy is a problem in the african american Community it is also a problem in society at Large. We were subjected to hundreds of years of slavery oppression genocide hatred racism rape and murder. The devastating psychological and physical damage of these practices still lingers. It has Only been within the last 30 years that civil rights and equal Opportunity have even been legislated and practice. My great great grandparents were born slaves. 1 and fellow african americans live this legacy. It is unreasonable to believe that racism has vanished All wrongs have been made right and suddenly we Are All on equal footing. Tremendous Progress has been made in the struggle for equal Opportunity fairness and Freedom from racism but we still have a Long Way logo. Institutional racism still exists. Owens states that this is not the Case. I beg to differ. The majority of individuals who make up the institutions and corporations of America and Usa eur Are White. My attitudes and beliefs my Point of reference Are All formed by my physical and intellectual environment. 1 am intuitively biased in favor of those within my own experience and intuitively biased against those outside my own experience. It is not unreasonable to believe that a White person would be biased against an individual outside of his own experience. Without training conditioning and programs to address and Correct this innate Bias we Are All at the mercy of ignorance and racial discrimination. The goal should not be to become a Colo Blind society but to become one that sees More clearly. Understanding tolerance fairness and equal Access to All available opportunities should be the goal. History lesson in order i take offence to the writer who said a the 18 years of damage done to our society by the likes of Thurgood Marshall May be  he further went on by giving his full support to Clarence Thomas to replace Justice Marshall. I feel a history lesson is in order. Justice Marshall a name was carved in Stone Long before he became a supreme court Justice in 1967. His was a Brilliant Legal career that began in 1933 As a lawyer for the a act. During the next two decades Justice Marshall helped inspire much of the significant civil rights Progress in the 20th Century. He helped secure voting rights for All qualified persons regardless of race established admission for qualified minorities applying to state Law schools helped abolish state supported housing agreements that barred minorities from buying Homes in White neighbourhoods and the landmark Brown is. The Board of education where Marshall argued and convinced the supreme court in 1954 that the segregated school systems in the United states deprived minority children of equal educational Opportunity. Barkley Darmstadt Germany costly carelessness on oct. 4 at 8 30 a.m., i was travelling on b-8 heading toward Pioneer  Cavern in Hanau Germany. This Section of b-8 is a four Lane Road with two lanes in each direction separated by a guard rail. It is a mini express Lane Only a few Kilometres Long. After passing the Lamboy exit the Road curves sharply to the left. 1 was travelling about 120 Kph. I was about Halfway through the curve when at about 100 meters ahead of me was a set of . I tried to change lanes but could not because of traffic in the right Lane. 1 could not slam on the brakes because the Force of Gravity would have taken me into the right Lane. The Only thing i could do was Brake lightly shift the car Over to the left Side and hopefully straddle the chock blocks. After running them Over the car buckled and put me in a position to run into the car in the right Lane. I swerved to avoid hitting the car in the right Lane and started to spin into the Center guard rail. After taking corrective action my car spun three times went off the Road and Over turned. After crawling out of the car unhurt 1 noticed another americans car turning in 360-degree turns. The total number of cars involved was five. To the Soldier who forgot to secure his chock blocks i wish that you were the one who lost your ride to work. 1 also wish that you were the one who had to pay 356.25 Marks to have your car towed away and junked. I wish it were you who has to pay about 220 Marks for an estimate that the Hanau Legal claims office requested. 1 might be entitled to a maximum of $1,000. This of course excludes towing. 1 paid $1,000 for the car in August and with the estimate of 220 Marks i will be Lucky to barely collect Back 55 percent.
