What a the use of the average fan hoping his her team has a Chance at a National championship when the bowls Are not concerned with rankings and getting a Clear Cut no. 1, but with the almighty Dollar. Let s look at the sugar bowl a Florida is. Notre Dame a give me a break. I guess if Penn state had its own network then they would be playing Florida. Lets face it if you re going to invite a team based on its drawing Power Money and pay no attention to the a up rankings Why have bowl games or for that matter College football rankings personally i watch a game if its going to be a Good game. If an airs the sugar bowl ill probably go to bed or take the trash out. Who wants to watch Florida blow out notre Dame every ranked team the Irish played they lost to Michigan Tennessee Penn state. The College football association should Force the bowl committees to adopt a playoff system like every other major College sport using the howl games As stepping stones. Then notre Dame would be watching the bowl games playoffs like East St. A front their living rooms. A sgt. James d. A Werner benue Gelsenkirchen Germany weighty responsibility this is a response to a recent writers Quot reaction Quot to the letter Quot victims needed guns Quot the first 10 amendments were More than just an afterthought by our founding fathers. The Constitution was written in 1787 and ratified in 1788. The Luck of a Bill of rights however almost prevented ratification. Ratification was secured Only on solemn pledges by federalists that they would add to it a comprehensive Bill of rights. Those amendments were not agreed upon until 1791. The second amen Domeni was written at a time when personal fire arms not Only played a vital role in National defense but also in personal and civic defense. It was written at a time when the private citizen As part of the militia could be utilized to supplement Law enforcement officials. Today we face a system that puts convicted criminals Back on our streets while lying the hands of the police. The police Are forced to be reactive at Best. They can do nothing until a crime is being or has been committed. By that time its often As in the Case of Killeen Texas too late for the victim s. The writer questions How Many people on a National basis would be injured or killed As a result of unintentional discharges and escalated arguments if More citizens carried firearms. I can to answer that question nobody can. But 1 can ask my own questions How Many violent crimes Are prevented by an armed citizenry How Many lives arc saved. As a citizen who has legally carried a sidearm on and off duty in several states 1 can Tell the lieutenant that its a weighty responsibility and not at All conducive to a Quot gunslinger Quot mentality. Quite the opposite a citizen must be aware at All times that if he uses that firearm he will certainly be liable to criminal Law proceedings and probably civil Law actions As Well. If that firearm is misused through negligence read Quot unintentional discharge Quot or ignorance read Quot escalated argument Quot he can lose his property his Freedom or even his life. Good citizens done to Quot play with a Jon Pettebone Hanau Germany a editor s note a letters from readers expressing their viewpoints or opinions Are published daily in this space. Such letters should be addressed to readers action line the stars and stripes Apo a 09211.2nd amendment needed this is to the author of a kill 2nd a the men who penned the Constitution and its amendments were among the most Learned of the time. They had a vision for our nation and took measures to ensure freedoms would last. In the final analysis the second amendment helps to guarantee All of the others. This is because it is much easier to strip people of their rights and liberties when they have no Means of preventing or resisting it than it is to do the same to an armed populace that is unwilling to be trampled on. This even applies to the first amendment which allows both you and i to write letters to the editor without fear of reprisals from the government if we happen to say something that does not coincide with army or air Force policy. What would repealing the second amendment mean it would mean Many people would be left totally defenceless. It would also mean that Many More people would be turned into criminals suddenly because they either refused to hand in their firearms when the inevitable bans came about ignored the new oppressive Ness or simply could not be Lieve that this could happen in the United states. In a always glad to see people taking an interest in our rights and to see you in particular utilizing your right to free speech. Its a shame that the majority of gun owners done to care As much about their rights As you do. Maybe your letter made a few of them recognize the fact that if they done to protect their rights they la be taken away by people who feel As you do. Of course the rights that you feel important would eventually be taken away As Well. By the Way where is this Quot civilized society you. Spoke of a staff sgt. Richard l. Hutchinson Raf Ben Waters England Malcolm x praised this is in response to the letter Quot King led the i done to think that More people favor Malcolm x Over or. King. I honestly think that it is the other Way around. But that a not important. Unfortunately a lot of american people refuse to admit that we Benefit also from our struggle through Malcolm x As Well As or. King. The important thing is that during those times the Black Man had to fight to beat this thing called social injustice. Both types of Battles were needed both types of leaders were needed. 1 know in my neighbourhood Malcolm x had the most influence. Now because of the Malcolm x movement in the ?T60s, racism is not As bad As it was in most places. Or. King s methods did not work for everyone. They both were great men and should be respected As that. A sgt. Sam Mangrant Goppinger Germany class needs help this month my third Grade class will be studying different countries around the world.
