I attended College on an athletic scholarship where i competed on the National level in collegiate swimming for three years in a Row and travelled across the United states in that capacity. I graduated with a Bachelor of arts degree and was employed As a cartographer by the second largest engineering firm in Austin Texas. Now All of a sudden because i have chosen to stay at Home and nurture my children i am assumed to be bored unmotivated and desiring something i cannot attain. Had i desired another life i would not have chosen to Bear children. When my husband and i decided to Start a family we also accepted sole responsibility for the care raising value systems belief and education of our children a vitally important factors that Are increasingly left to people other than parents or forced onto society and Public systems. In our family our Short term financial goals have been revised and reevaluated in order for me to remain Home. Yes we Camp instead of staying in hotels on vacation and we still use the same furniture we used during College. Nice material possessions Are things we have chosen to sacrifice for a few years so that our Long term goals a children who Are secure Happy and share our family a values a can be realized. It is our conviction that people Are More important than things. The personal satisfaction of raising our own children reminds us of this daily. We need to get Back to believing that a woman who chooses to stay at Nome with her children is doing something she truly enjoys and is experiencing times she will always treasure. The writer can be assured of two things. Hirst we do share a a a common culture and upbringing As american citizens but secondly and More importantly his ancestors As Well As mine Are from the same Mother continent of Africa. The fact that Many Black youths do not have a Broad knowledge of the land they now try to cling to is not entirely their fault or ours. Few adults can Tell you which country in Africa their ancestors were from. During the slave Trade our ancestors were forcibly stripped of All ties with the culture that had become second nature to them. Noncompliance was met with beatings punishment and in Many cases death. In View of these and Many other atrocities inflicted on african americans or americans of african ancestry one should not condemn those who now express an authentic new found non fad dish enthusiasm to express their afro centrism. There is an increasing number of americans of african ancestry who have a burning desire to know How they got to where they Are.
