Advertising Tel fax 06155-601412 letters to the editor replace grease now your article a military plans to replace lubricant involved in fatal helicopter crashes feb. 17 irritated me. How Many people have to be injured or killed and now Many aircraft have to be destroyed before the military will Speed up the replacement of a potentially substandard lubricant for its Fleet of uh-1n helicopters the current lubricant was found deficient by two services air Force and marines during investigations of fatal aircraft accidents. One would think that a lubricant could be found to replace the current Type of lubricant until the one under development due in 1996 hits the Supply system. I used to Fly the uh-1n and have friends who still Fly them and it Burns me that for the Lack of a Good lubricant we have killed Good people put More at risk and destroyed perfectly Good aircraft. Flying is risky enough without having to worry whether a $6 tube of grease is going to ruin your whole Day and the fives of your loved ones. Lets solve this problem now. The Money we spend on changing the grease now will be saved Many times Over when we done to have to pay for the funeral of another aircrew member. A capt. Mark d. Ward Raf Alconbury England late but cherished mail now that the Holiday season is Over i would like to take this Opportunity to thank All the postal workers everywhere for doing such a wonderful Job. I received my last Christmas card on feb. 5. It was mailed on . 18. That is right. It took the card approximately 49 Days from the time of mailing to the Day i received it. Needless to say i was somewhat angered by the length of time it took to receive the card. Now you Are probably wondering Why this is a letter of thanks. Upon closer inspection of the address on the card i realized that my Mother had used the wrong Apo. The address was Correct except for the Apo number. The Apo number she used was for an address at my former duty station in Riyadh saudi Arabia. This is a very understandable error for someone who is 81 years old. A postal worker somewhere took the time to do the Job properly this is the person i wish to thank. This person found out the proper Apo number and forwarded the card to me. I shall remember this unknown person for a Long time to come. For you see my Mother passed away on . 28. This card was the last written communication from her a Phillip c. Murray or. Frankfurt Germany a steer those Drivers in reference to your article a awards Roll in for Accident free Drivers a i applaud the Drivers. There is no doubt this is a major accomplishment. I could not help but notice that these soldiers have quite a few years in service. By the army a standards As a whole their rank is not consistent with their time in service. With the draw Down under Way and the new retention control Point i feel the army a leaders should concentrate on professional development programs that will give these and other truck Drivers the Opportunity to Advance to the next higher Grade. Soldiers should be rotated More often to More challenging assignments rather than being homesteaded in one com Mand. This will enhance their chances of promotion. It is a proven fact that those who Are assigned to divisional corps and separate combat arms organizations perform better and move up the promotion ladder faster. These Drivers May have driven 200,000 Miles but they have eight to 18 years in service and no Soldier ranks above e-6. Who at the department of the army will take this into consideration for promotion lets get with the program and get these soldiers promoted so that they can remain competitive with the rest of the army. I was seven months pregnant with my first baby and moving into an apartment on the German Economy As the wife of a lower enlisted Soldier. I done to want this to be an endless letter of All that is wrong Here but a tribute to the Only person who Over these years has stood beside our family and truly cared about us Kathryn Ray of the Mannheim Uso. She supported us and helped us regardless of rank or circumstance. She called to Check on us invited us to do exciting things taught us about volunteerism and always had a smile and hug when we saw her. She helped us feel important and Good again. We Are leaving now much Wiser and More mature. 1 will never be Able to thank Katie enough As Well As the Uso for making our lives easier and happier. A Margaret Bricker Mannheim Germany adults worse than kids i just had to respond to the writer who said parents should a Wise up and leave children at Home instead of taking the kids with them to the movies. It is True that children can become disruptive any time and anywhere. I can sympathize though with the parents who decide to take a Chance that the evening will go smoothly and bring the child along. I took our then-8-month-old son to the movies Only to have him Start crying Halfway through the show. I did what most do i stepped into the lobby. Do not be so Quick to condemn children for their loudness. There have been More adults than children in my experience who a a ruined a movie for me. Several times in be sat in front of a group of Guys whose conversations about their not dates were loud enough for everyone to hear. In be had people Cross Back and Forth in front of me at least half a dozen times for trips to the refreshment stand bathroom Etc. In be had people push on my seat with their feet during the entire movie. In be seen couples kissing with such passion they must have forgotten anyone else was in the theater. Ive seen people spit chewing tobacco on the floor throw Popcorn and smack and pop their gum. I agree that when you go to the movies to enjoy yourself you should do just that. But it is not just the kids who make me wish i had waited for the movie to come out on videocassette More often it is the adults. A Cindy Ouzts Pitburg Germany a a reasons for flight delay in response to the letter to the editor a waiting the Mac Way a i would like to share some insights into the circumstances surrounding the writers delayed flight. Unfortunately his flight As Well As most of the aircraft travelling to and from the Frankfurt area that Day were diverted to other locations because of heavy fog at Frankfurt. Originally the plane diverted to Cologne and was to remain there until the Frankfurt weather cleared. When the weather did no to improve our Mac passenger service personnel made billeting arrangements at local hotels and arranged transportation for the delayed passengers at government expense. This was accomplished As a customer convenience since Many families had been travelling All Day and the weather was not forecaster to improve in the next few hours. The next Day the weather was no better and the aircraft was again delayed at Cologne because of the fog at Frankfurt. After three unsuccessful Landing attempts the aircraft again diverted to Cologne. To avoid any further delay arrangements were made with the airline to bus the delayed passengers from Frankfurt to Cologne where clearer weather would allow for their departure to the states. As you can appreciate working in the largest air passenger terminal in the department of defense is a Tough Job. Its much harder when we Are in the Middle of a $10 million renovation project and More than 350 of our passengers Are delayed. We Hope that the writer will have another Opportunity to travel through our terminal in the near future. Although weather delays Seldom occur the enthusiasm of our passenger terminal professionals is always evident. In a confident that his next trip will be a better experience. A it. Col. Thomas j.
