By Tom Sharp Knoxville Tenn. Tennessee coach Johnny majors does t want to say much about this player Mutiny business South Carolina went through a few weeks ago. He just knows the gamecocks will be going for a third straight Victory sat urday against the 16th-ranked vols. They be responded to adversity which sometimes can bring people closer to Gether majors said tuesday. I d say that s a Heck of a Way to go about it but that s their business and they be been better the last two weeks for whatever the South Carolina players dissatisfaction reached a head three weeks ago when at 0-5, they voted to ask coach Sparky Woods to quit. Since then the gamecocks have upset Mississippi state and come from behind on the Road to Down Vanderbilt. I Don t know a thing about what precipitated the player revolt majors said. Sometimes those things can be taken Way out of perspective. I do know coach Woods rather Well. I m not sur prised he Hung in there Tough. I hate to see them get the Confidence they re play ing with right now since we re playing them this week but i certainly am pleased for Sparky Woods Sake that he did not let anarchy take the player being Given most of the credit for the gamecocks turnaround is freshman quarterback Steve Taneyhill. He s from Pennsylvania has Long hair i think and has an earring or two but he s playing Well majors said when asked what he knew about Taneyhill. He s been an awfully Good player what Ever he wears and however Long his hair in the two victories since he took Over Taneyhill is 18-for-31 passing for 401 Yards and three touchdowns. That rep resents an offensive explosion the gamecocks managed just three touch Downs in their first five games. Majors went out of his Way to say his comment about Taneyhill s hair length was not meant critically. I Don t mean that negative at All. Any body who takes that out of perspective had his recorder turned off be said. I told you what Little knew about him personally. I like what he s done for the team. He s done Well for Chaump receives vote of Confidence by David Ginsburg Annapolis my. A while Navy coach George Chaump has reason to worry about this saturday s game against no. 10 notre Dame he need t be concerned about his Job even though the midshipmen have lost 17 of 18 games. I feel very confident that George Chaump is the Man to bring this program along athletic director Jack Lengyel said wednesday. Any coach who comes into a division i a program you be got to give him the full Opportunity to recruit All his Chaump is in his third year at Navy after successful four year stints at mar shall and Indiana a. In his first season with the midshipmen he produced a respectable 5-6 team. But that was followed by last year s 1-10 disaster and this sea son Navy is 0-6 soon to be 0-7, barring an upset for the Ages. The players Chaump inherited were recruited in a system that specialized in the run. Chaump prefers a pass heavy style of attack and was moving in that direction this season when Navy experienced a rash of injuries at the worst pos sible position quarterback. Navy s starting tailback Jason Van Matre became the starting quarterback. And Chaump once again is forced to make his offence rely upon the run. Our record has not been that Good Over the past two years but i m very pleased with what i be seen Lengyel said. George understands the hurdles of working at Navy and the players respect him.
