Not angry exactly but certainly  Only a year ago Canton found it truly shocking that barbra Streisand was overlooked in the Best director category while her movie the Prince of tides racked up seven nominations including Best picture. A year earlier before Canton arrived at Colum Bia Penny Marshall was similarly slighted when she failed to win a Best director nomination for awakenings. Two weeks ago the director Jinx has hit Columbia once again. Rob Reiner was excluded from the Academy s Best director roster although his movie a few Good men was nominated for Best picture. The oscars will be dealt out March 29. No uplift from Downey usually an Academy award nomination is seen by major Hollywood Stu Dios As a Golden Opportunity to hype their movies especially if the nomination is in an above the line category such As acting or Best picture. But pity poor Robert Downeyjr. Downey garnered an Oscar nomination for Best actor for his uncanny portrayal of comedian Charlie Chaplin in the Richard Attenborough film Chaplin but it appears Downey s nomination is not going to boost the fortunes of the movie. The film which was released by tristan pictures on Christmas Day has made less than $10 million. Given the ices than enthusiastic Public response Trisler has decided to reduce the number of Thea ters where Chaplin is showing from 306 to 214.
