The Issue of whether excluding the group was discriminatory had threatened to sideline the nation s largest  Parade which annually attracts crowds of up to 2 million people. . District judge Kevin t. Duffy said in a written decision that the ancient order of hibernian was protected by the right to free speech from being forced to include a group whose beliefs conflict with its own. It is the american Way for political leaders to seek to convince citizens of the correctness of some View by persuasion and not by Fiat the judge wrote. A Parade is by its nature a Pristine form of speech Duffy said. The judge granted an injunction against the City prohibiting it from obstructing or interfering with the hibernian right to conduct the Parade which is held on fifth Avenue in the heart of Manhattan. The City had revoked the hibernian Parade permit. The hibernian had argued that the Parade is an expression of religious beliefs protected by the right to tree speech. They noted that it is held on fifth Avenue chiefly because it passes St. Patrick s Cathedral. John Dunleavy acting chairman of the Parade said he was absolutely  fabulous. This Means the Parade will go on he said. We re disappointed that the City lost said Flor ence a. Hutner a lawyer for the City. She declined to comment further. Brendan Fay a member of the Parade committee of the Irish Gay and lesbian organization which had sought to March in the Parade said the group was very saddened and  we should t be surprised because for centuries slavery was Legal. Lobbyist Clayton Jackson and former sen. Paul car Penter were charged with mail fraud conspiracy to commit mail fraud and Money laundering. Jackson also was charged with racketeering and Carpenter with conspiracy to obstruct Justice and obstructing Justice. Carpenter a Cypress already faces a retrial on charges of racketeering conspiracy and extortion. The new charges Stem from an alleged conspiracy Between Carpenter Jackson and former state sen. Alan Kobbins Robbins a Van Guys pleaded guilty to corruption charges and is serving a five year prison sentence. He is cooperating with the investigation. The three Are among Capitol figures snared in an Fri sting that began in the mid-1980s with the introduction of a Bill to finance a fictitious shrimp Plant in the Sacramento area. Friday s indictment alleges Jackson used his lobbying firm to bribe elected officials so they would support his clients position on legislation. The indictment accuses Jackson of persuading unsuspecting clients including a statewide association of insurance companies to contribute to Carpenter s Campaign. Student says he wrote slur on own door Slippery Rock a. A a Black student admitted scrawling an ethnic slur on his dormitory door and blaming it on Drunken vandals school officials said. Lewis Williams Iii 19, of Baltimore was dismissed from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania after admitting his guilt said Anthony Caldarelli coordinator of student standards. Williams was charged with criminal mischief and eth Nic intimidation and faces a court hearing March 22, Campus police said. District judge s. Arthur Spiegel ruled thursday that the policy is unconstitutionally  also denied motions by the reds the City and Burns International Security services to dismiss civil rights lawsuit filed by the Rev. Drugs alcohol killed soap Star new York Michael Morrison who played the role of Caleb Snyder on the lbs soap As the world turns died from an accidental overdose of alcohol and illegal drugs a toxicology report showed Friday. Morrison 33, died from acute intoxication caused by the combination of ethanol cocaine and opiates said Ellen Borakove a spokeswoman for the City medical examiner s office.
