Limburg medieval City off the beaten path if tourist trodden towns teaming with bustling visitors in double Decker buses Aren t your style but you d still like to get out for a Day to see the Countryside and explore Germany then Limburg May be your kind of place. The picturesque German Village located about 45 Miles Northwest of Frankfurt is perfect for a quiet Day of unhurried sightseeing. Tiny cobblestones streets wind through the old historic Section of town where people still live and work in buildings that were constructed in the 14th and 15th centuries. The half timbered houses whose Wood is literally bowed and warped with age lean out Over the roads in an amazing Defiance of Gravity. A family still lives in one of the oldest buildings in Germany that dates Back to 1289. The Only traffic jams you la see Here Are the ones caused by baby strollers As townspeople and a few sightseers wind their Way around the historic town. Limburg has much to offer the seasoned sightseer its a Post famous attractions Are the St. Georges Cathedral and museum the old Lahn Bridge and the ashes Schloss old Castle behind the Cathedral. The Cathedral was built s4.s in the i 3th Century and is a masterpiece of late romanesque and Early gothic. Though the old Windmill listed in Many of the guidebooks is no longer in in its prime the w Alk along the Riverbank from the old Lahn Bridge to the boat and Quot no area upriver is Well Worth the trek. The perfect place Tor a stroll or an afternoon picnic the path is flanked with the River on one Side and Lush Green grass and a few benches on the other. While Limburg is a perfect Day trip there is a camping site on the other Side of the River that offers places for Large and Small campers and tents. Prices vary depending on the season. Don t be deceived by the languorous atmosphere of the historic Section into thinking that the City of Limburg is a forgotten medieval town. Just a few Short blocks away lies modern Limburg Complete with a convenient parking garage and a train station that is Only four blocks from the historic Section. If you Are travelling by car take autobahn a-3 North from Frankfurt toward Kiln Cologne and get off at the Limburg Nord exit and follow the signs to Stadt Mitte. Though there Are guidebooks available in German both at the Cathedral and at the local tourist office it was difficult to find one in English. Many of the townspeople and tour guides at the Cathedral did speak enough English to communicate and Are More than Happy to direct you to the local Sites. The half timbered House at the end of this old Cobblestone Road just off do Strasse is said to be the oldest inhabited half timbered House in Germany and dates from 1290.
