Actions not phrases to disturbing message july 14i must assert that i am quite tired of hearing people Coin empty and meaning less phrases in an Effort to Sway others Over to their Point of View. I refer to the comment that we need to return to the moral and ethical standards that made our country the writer seems to need a Good lesson in american history. When Pray Tell has our country Ever been great perhaps some reflection is called for regarding just what it is that makes a country great. In the meantime try this food forethought although i happen to be against Abor Tion personally i do realize that there Are other equally and even More compel Ling activities that consider wrong to which i am forced to contribute through taxes i.e., War Covert intelligence operations an educational system which produces an unacceptable number of illiterate individuals exorbitant salaries and Perks for elected officials just to name few. I wonder just How much time Money and service the average staunch abortion foe gives to Chanty work which helps to feed clothe and shelter the starving masses already alive today. How does he she contribute to fight the wave of senseless killing which is sweep ing our country p if we Are against abortion based upon the moral or ethical position that it is kill ing or murder what ave we doing to fight All the other forms of killing that happen every Day Why Are our hands not read to assist in whatever ways Are needed to put a Stop to homelessness starvation unemployment illiteracy and poverty finally As for the Federal Law. No providing for. Access to tax dollars to pay for it abortion in other words the writer advocates perpetuating the current separation of socioeconomic women who can afford abortions May attain them but poor women who would rely heavily on an already Over taxed social welfare system for the funds to provide for their children once born May not. Of then it is also accept Able for wealthy Young men to pursue their College studies in time of War draft while the poor must take up their gun Sand be led like lambs to the Slaughter what we need is across the boar equal Opportunity in every Arena regard less of race culture gender age socioeconomic status and yes even sexual preference. -l.d. Turk Gau Winheim Germany hounded at Haine Berg i am new to military life and to Ger Many. Since we arrived we have resided in a Motel room for two months. We havea Small dog which we take with us every where because of this fact. On july 24 we embarked on a trip to Wiesbaden Haine Bergondy stopping for a drink of water and use of the rest room at the shop Pette. We rolled the windows Down some an left water for our dog to drink. I was in there for maybe five minutes and went Back to the car to find a hostile woman inquiring if that was my dog. I said yes in t she pitiful you leave her anywhere Tor a few minutes and she can t stand Well she stated adamantly it against the Law Here a am and that dog is frying in i stated we were Only gone for a few minutes. She mumbled some smart remark arid walked you i do not relish the of taking my dog everywhere i go but right now we really do not have a Choice in the of tatters my reason for writing i hear commercials on the radio stating we Are in a for eign country and should be courteous As we Are guests. But should t that go for everyone if the woman had known our situation i am sure she would have kept her Mouth shut and minded her own business. Needless to say our first impression of Wiesbaden Haine Berg v residents was not Good and will be considered next time we go on an excursion. Amanda Kofroth Sohrn Germany despair Over hair fare who is the Brainia that makes up the policies at the army and air Force Exchange service the other Day i called to make an appointment for a haircut at the Alee Beauty shop on Leighton Barracks in Wurzburg Germany. Since i had never been there before inquired about their Price for a haircut. The lady asked me if my hair was Longe than shoulder length. I replied affirmatively and she quoted me a Price. When i got my haircut a few Days water it took All of 10 minutes. I got a couple inches Cut off the ends and my Bangs trimmed. When i went to pay the beautician did not say anything about my Cut costing More she just told me the charge $10.60. There were no posted Price lists in View. I later found out that a Short Cut would have Cost me Only $8.10. I asked her and another beautician nearby if it was cafes policy to charge More for Long hair. They both replied affirmatively. I told them that it was a Stu pid policy since my stick straight All one of Engin hair was so much simpler to Cut than someone with Short curly Lay ered and tapered hair like Joan Lunden on Good morning America for exam ple. They agreed with me stating that i anybody should pay More it should be the women with Short hairstyles because they require More skill and time. It Actu ally takes More skill to Cut my husbands his Cut costs Only about $5. I personally do not feel anyone should pay More than anyone else for a Cut. I think this policy is not Only discriminatory but defies common sense. There is a Surprise Why does t cafes Jas the beauticians themselves about the policies it makes obviously they know Mote about it. I am betting that most women with Long hair do not realize that cafes is charging them $2.50 More Audrey Cassibry a Wurzburg Germany picking poor example r the controversy Over the Transfer of the stars and stripes bookstores to the army and air Force Exchange service has generated several heated letters Al ready but a quote on that subject on july 20 cannot be allowed to stand unchallenged so Here is another log for the fire the draw Down of the. Military and reduction of the defense department s budget has made consolidation of facilities and resources a necessity but it has not made us stupid. How can anyone claiming to be a marketing consultant say by consolidating the bookstores cafes will make it work like they did with the class six stores. It sounds to me As if the consultant thinks that reduced selection at higher prices is a Triumph. Anyone can raise prices and reduce inventory when they face no Competition. An this Case the difficulty is not in making Money but in Cus Tomer satisfaction. A the cafes takeover of the class six is not a Success Story of customer satisfaction and should not be used As a positive example. Putting a Magazine rack at the checkout stands of the base Exchange Post Exchange and shop Pette will not be running a Bookstore any More than stick ing a Row of overpriced California wine in Between the shampoo and the 100-Volt appliances is running a class six. In the. End. I am afraid the Tonsul Tarot statement will be Correct. Cafes will make the bookstores work just like they did the class six stores offering lessor More. ,. James j. Miller kaisers Lautem Germany too loud is too loud i am responding to the articles about people who play their car stereos in Mili tary housing. The person who responded to the first article was taking sides for what Type of music is being played. The complaint is not about what Type of music is being played but that it is being played loud enough that the entire Street co thear it. I was once the problem but that was when i was 17 years old and in High school. The people who Are waking Resi dents up in the morning and causing us not to sleep at night Are not 17 years old. These people Are adults or so we would think m the . Military and have families. They should act like adults and be considerate of others who do not want to hear their music.
