There was no indication of Why the soc s 65-member executive Board chose los Angeles Long the front runner in the Competition but in All its presentations the City stressed it had the facilities Al ready in place and it would need relatively Little Money for the York on the other hand foresaw a built in deficit but did not believe there would be any difficulty in overcoming it especially since its bid had the full support of the governor and state legislature. The new York bid had a built in deficit of $250 million but officials from the Gover nor on Down assured the voting delegates that the costs would be absorbed. At first they said the state Wold provide $100 Mil lion and the Federal government $150 Mil lion but at one Point they indicated the state would underwrite the entire deficit. California gov. Edmund g. Brown jr., who made a hurried late night trip Here when it appeared that Longshot new York was gaining headway with the executive Board said there is a lot of talk about Money. I for one see the spirit of the olympics in Competition and Honor and the traditions that have made it what it is Over the Many centuries. So As Long As the proposal is sound the real focus ought to be on the athletes and individual competitions and the commit ment to excellence. It is not just something to make businessmen a few extra profits he said. Los Angeles next must make a presenta Tion at the upcoming meeting of the Gener Al Assembly sports federations in Monte Carlo oct. 6-9.
