Yarborough was close behind just ahead of Parsons. They stayed in that order until Yarbo rough took the Lead for the first time on the 37th Lap. However one Lap later de Negre and buddy Arrington tangled right in front of Yarborough and he narrowly missed a crash that would have taken him out of Competition for the Day. Parsons took the Lead when Yarboroug stopped and held on until Lap 95
