The suit filed by 21 Nail clubs in Manhattan Federal court claims that nil owners Are planning next week to expand and reinforce a Cross owner ship ban preventing nil owners from owning franchises in other professional sports teams. The Nail maintains the ban violates Federal antitrust Law because it restricts Competition by having a Chil Ling effect on the willingness of Many nil owners to invest in soccer. Although the 26 nil clubs were named As defendants three were identified As unwilling  these were the Kansas City chiefs the Miami dolphins and the Seattle sea Hawks. The Nail claims that although soc cer is drawing an average crowd of 13, 000 per game the sport is in a critical phase in the . It needs investment capital and entrepreneurial skill to fund and guide franchise changes to make it grow to its potential and yield profits the league said. The Nail also said in the suit that nil owners started the Cross owner ship ban in the Early 1960s by barring those with majority nil interests from acquiring or maintaining interest in other team sports franchises. Although the nil sought to expand its restrictions in 1972 and 1976, the ban was not strictly enforced and some owners ignored it. The Nail which had its most successful season in 1977-78, claimed that next week s nil owners meeting was to reinforce and expand the ban and impose $75,000 monthly fines to enforce it. The pro soccer league asked the court to declare the ban violates the antitrust Law and enjoin it from being car ried out. They also want the court to award treble damages for any financial injury they could establish they have suffered As a result of the ban.
