But when Gen. Dwight d. Eisenhower told the troops they had been selected to begin reclaiming Europe the Loudmouth did t have a thing to say Liska said. Liska remembers a quiet moment before the assault on Utah Beach the morning of june 6. It hit me that not All of these men would live through the Day. I thought that if i lived i d never forget the people who did not return with at 10 30 a.m., the 12th regt pushed across 1,500 Yards of flooded Beach each Man weighted Down with equipment. Beneath their feet were crisscrossed irrigation ditches up to seven feet deep. As they got to dry land lines of White tape marked a path across Sand that had not been mined. Families who visited there were comforted by his vivid recollections. They had come thousands of Miles just to see a wooden Cross. I wanted them to have More. It was Good for them to hear it from someone who had lived with and landed on the Beach with their in 1951, some remains were returned to the states. Liska was there to watch.
